Matadors Finish Eighth at Big West Women's Golf Championship

YORBA LINDA, Calif. - The CSUN women's golf team posted a final round 313 but could not move up from an eighth-place finish at the conclusion of the 2021 Big West Women's Golf Championship Wednesday at Yorba Linda Country Club.
The Matadors finished with team scores of 307-308-313 to post a tournament total of 928 (+64). Cal Poly (869) took home the Big West title and the conference's automatic berth into the NCAA Regionals by two shots over UC Davis (871). Long Beach State (873), one of two teams under-par on Wednesday, finished third followed by UC Irvine (875), UC Riverside (885), Cal State Fullerton (905), Hawai'i (914), CSUN (928) and CSU Bakersfield (959).
CSUN's Julia Johansson, who was tied for fifth following a second round 69, managed a top-20 finish after posting her second round of 76 (+4) on Wednesday. Johansson had seven pars and a pair of bogeys on the front nine to make the turn at two-over. A birdie at No. 2 dropped her to one-over but she was three-over the rest of the way to finish at 76. Johansson, who tied for fourth among 45 players with nine birdies in the championship, wound up in 16th-place at 221 (+5) following rounds of 76-69-76.

CSUNÂ SCORES
- Grace Bettis, who was CSUN's low player after a career-best 73 in round one, finished with an 80 (+8) to slip into 30th at 231 (+15). Bettis completed the championship with rounds of 73-78-80 to equal her CSUN tournament-best (231) from the 2019-20 season.
- Kiran Sangha had one birdie on Wednesday and followed up rounds of 79-81 with another round of 81 (+9) to finish 38th at 240 (+24).Â
- Freshman Tiffany Pak posted her best round of the championship Wednesday, following up rounds of 83-84 with a final round 76 (+4) to move up two spots into 40th at 243 (+27).
- After consecutive rounds of 80 Monday and Tuesday, Hanne Sofie Borgen struggled to a final round 87 (+15) to slip into 41st place at 247 (+31).
