Jamerson's 3-Hit Performance Leads CSUN Past UCR 6-3

RIVERSIDE, Calif.—Kenedee Jamerson recorded her second three-hit game of her career to lead CSUN to a 6-3 victory over UC Riverside in Big West softball action Sunday afternoon at Amy S. Harrison Field.
Lauryn Garewal reached on a one-out infield single in the bottom of the first. She stole second and with two outs stole third. Garewal scored on the steal attempt due to a CSUN error.
Aaliyah Swan singled with one out in the top of the third. With two outs, she stole second and came home on a Journey Rojas single. Savannah Favre hit her second home run of the season, officially, an inside-the-park job, to drive in Rojas for a 3-1 Matadors' lead.
Maiah Motta led off the UCR third with a single. She advanced to second on a successful Leah Brito bunt. Marissa Burk singled as Motta went to third. With Garewal coming up, Eryka Gonzales relieved Jamerson. Burk stole second on Gonzales' first pitch. Down 0-2 in the count, Garewal singled to left to drive in Motta with Burk taking third.
Garewal stole second. Katherine Montuya ran the count to 3-2 before grounding out to second. With the infield in, both runners couldn't advance on the play. Kennedi Sorensen grounded out to third for the final out of the inning.
Jaymi Steward led off the Matador sixth with an infield single. With one out, Jamerson charted her second hit of the day, an opposite field single to left which allowed Steward to move up a base. Usquiano was ruled to have interfered with Sorensen, the UCR catcher, at the plate, which became the second out. Tatum Wentworth singled down the third base line to drive in Steward. Swan flew out to conclude matters.
Gonzales struck out the side in the fifth and retired eight in a row heading into the Highlanders sixth. Garewal opened the inning by doubling to right. Montuya singled up the middle to score Garewal and make it a one-run game. Sorensen flew out to Acenter. Gianna Araki walked. Allison Troche attempted to sacrifice both runners up a base.
On the play, CSUN committed an error which allowed all of the Highlanders to reach base safely. Briza Blanco pushed the count to 2-2 before Gonzales struck her out. Gonzales struck out Motta on three consecutive pitches to get out of the inning.
The third UCR pitcher of the day, Caitlyn Rivera, walked Alexis Lemus and Rojas to begin the top of the seventh. Rojas was thrown out at second on a Favre ground ball while Lemus took third on the play. Steward grounded out to second which allowed Favre to advance to second. Garcia was hit by a Rivera pitch to load bases. Jamerson's third hit of the day was a single through the right side which drove in Lemus and Favre. Jamerson took second on a throw which allowed Garcia to move to third. Usquiano grounded out to bring the inning to a close.
With one out in the bottom of the seventh, Burk singled. Garewal walked. Gonzales struck Montuya out on three straight pitches to get the second out. Araki grounded out to second for to end the game.
The victory broke an 11-game losing streak that dated back to Apr. 2. Jamerson went 3-for-4. Her other three-hit game was against Brown on Feb. 29, 2020. Gonzales matched her career high with seven strikeouts. Garewal led UC Riverside (6-21, 5-13 Big West) as she posted three of the seven Highlanders' hits. Burk was 2-for-4.
