Matadors Complete Opening Women's Tennis Tournament at Long Beach

NORTHRIDGE, Calif.—The CSUN Women's Tennis team opened the Spring portion of the 2021-22 schedule this past weekend at the Long Beach State Winter Invitational.
DAY ONE
The Matadors played five singles matches against opponents from Portland. Ekaterina Repina, Jolene Coetzee, Sasha Turchak, and Jenna Dorian were victorious. Repina, Coetzee, and Turchak won in straight sets. Dorian had to go three sets against Aleksandra Dimitrijevic before winning 7-5 in the third.
Victoria Santibañez Luna played the fifth match against the Pilots' Rimona Rouf. Rouf won the first set 6-1 before Santibañez Luna took the second 6-3. Rouf took the final set 6-3. The Matadors lost both doubles matches against Long Beach State.
CSUN competed in two doubles matches against Long Beach State. The Matador teams of Coetzee and Santibañez Luna and Turchak and Dorian both lost to their foes from The Beach.
DAY TWO
CSUN took part in five singles matches against Boise State. The Broncos were victorious four times. Repina picked up the lone Matadors' victory, defeating Pauline Ernstberger 6-2, 6-3.
CSUN split a pair of doubles matches against teams from the University of Portland. Coetzee and Santibañez Luna shut out Iva Zelic and Neli Sunjic 6-0. Turchak and Dorian fell 6-2 to Sally Pethybridge and Rimona Rouf 6-2.
DAY THREE
The Matadors played five singles matches against Long Beach State and went 3-2. Repina defeated Nikola Homolkova 6-7, 6-3, 6-4. Santibañez Luna won in straight sets (6-3, 6-3) against Peppi Ramstedt while Dorian defeated Claire Le Du 2-6, 6-3, 7-5.
The Matadors took part in a pair of doubles matches against Boise State. Coetzee and Santibañez Luna and Turchak and Dorian both fell to their opponents from Boise.

"It was great to see our squad compete so well after more than a two-month break. We were shorthanded but played at a high level at times at all spots."
UP NEXT
The Matadors open the dual season next Saturday against Westmont with the first serve set for 11 a.m.
