Like Turchak, Tallia Harper rallied from a first-round loss to make the consolation finals of her Gray bracket. Harper dropped the first set to Abrahim 6-2 before tying the match with a 6-2 second set victory. Harper led 4-0 in the third before Abrahim retired to hand Harper the win.
PLAYER REACTION
"Today I played with a lot of energy believing in myself, achieving the victory," Sanz said. "I am so happy to win my first tournament at CSUN and I will keep fighting to give my best. Overall, I am very proud of our team because we are improving a lot. After a very good tournament, our next objective is Long Beach State.
"I am really happy about today's match because I fought on every point and handled the difficult moments of the match well," Solis said. "Overall, this has been a great tournament for all of us and I love the energy of this team."
"Today I'm proud of my fight," Harper said. "My opponent's style was tough for me because I wasn't used to it. I think it helped that my parents, teammates, and coaches were there to watch and support me. I wish I had been quicker to problem solve but I'm glad I still got the win."
"I was super happy to get the win today," said Sofia Dermenjyan (who defeated Camila Garcia of Cal State Fullerton, 5-7, 6-1, 6-1 in the consolation side of the Red Bracket). "My opponent was a lefty, like myself, so I had to change up the game plan a bit. It was a tough match, but my teammates helped me through it. I was able to keep myself motivated and my energy up."
