CSUN Wins Doubles Title; Earns a Pair of Runner-Ups at Long Beach State Tournament

LONG BEACH, Calif.—CSUN came away with one title and a pair of runner-up finishes at the Long Beach State Tournament Sunday afternoon at the Rhodes Tennis Center.
In the Black doubles flight, Jolene Coetzee and Angela Ho were victorious as the Matador pair defeated Sheena Masuda and Rhona Cook 6-3.
In the Black singles flight, Sasha Turchak lost to Grand Canyon's Natasha Puehse in the finals. Tuchak took the first set 7-5. Puehse tied the match by winning 6-3 in the second. Puehse won in a tiebreaker 7-4, in the third to take the match.
Sofia Dermenjyan was the runner-up in the White singles flight. Long Beach State's Doga Akyurek defeated Dermenjyan 6-3, 6-2 in the finals.
The Gold flight championship was to have featured CSUN's Vitoria Solis and Tallia Harper but the match was not played. In place of that match, the Matadors played separate singles matches. Solis defeated Cal State Fullerton's Natalie Duffy 6-4, 6-3 while Harper dropped a three-set decision to UC Irvine's Larissa Teramura (4-6, 6-2, 6-2).
Emma Moratalla Sanz who made the quarterfinals of the Black singles flight, won 6-4, 6-1 on Sunday in her match against Gonzaga's Kianna Oda.
Jacqueline O'Neill, who advanced to the consolation semifinals of the Gold singles flight, defeated Madeline Lamoreaux of Cal State Fullerton 6-2, 7-5.
Angela Ho, a quarterfinalist in the Gold singles flight, blanked Cal State Fullerton's Camila Garcia 6-0, 6-0 on Sunday.
Victoria Santibañez Luna bounced back from a pair of losses in the Black singles flight to win 6-2, 6-2 against Cydney Yamamoto of UC Irvine.
Turchak and Yuliia Zhytelna, semifinalists in the Black doubles flight, defeated Cal State Fullerton's Kaytlin Taylor and Diana Yanotovskaya in a tiebreaker 7-4 for a Sunday victory.
Solis and Harper, who advanced to the semifinals of the Gold doubles flight, were 6-4 winners in Sunday's match versus UC Irvine's Amanda Perez and Nour Khayat.

CSUN is off until Oct. 20-24 when the Matadors enter the ITA Southwest Regionals which will be played on the campuses of the University of San Diego and San Diego State.
