CSUN Sits 17th After Opening Round of Ka'anapali Classic Collegiate

LAHAINA, Hawai'i - The CSUN men's golf team posted an opening round even-par 289 on Friday and is 17th place after day one of the Ka'anapali Classic Collegiate at Ka'anapali Golf Course.
Sunny skies and low winds enabled Clemson to go low during round one as the Tigers' 17-under 267 leads two-time tournament winner Oklahoma and East Tennessee State by one and two shots, respectively. The North Florida Ospreys (273) are in fourth place while defending champion Kansas (275 and Ole Miss Rebels (275) are tied for fifth.
Oklahoma's Drew Goodman and Clemson's Andrew Swanson share the individual round one lead 7-under 64 while 13 players are within three shots of the individual co-leaders.
Felix Schrott is the low Matador after 18 holes as he is tied for 38th at 1-under 70. Schrott had one birdie and a pair of bogeys on his opening nine holes and made the turn at 1-over. A birdie at No. 1 brought him back to even-par where he remained until a and eagle three at No. 6 dropped him to 2-under. A par-bogey-par finish over his final three holes left him at 1-under on the day.

"We just got off to a bad start and unfortunately made a lot of mistakes today. But I know we're a talented team and I'm confident we'll bounce back starting tomorrow. I'd expect us to be under-par tomorrow and again on Sunday."
The Matadors will be paired with Mount St. Mary's, Gonzaga and Air Force for the second round which gets underway Saturday at 8:00 a.m. local time.

CSUNÂ SCORES
- Nick Fowlkes had a pair birdies, 13 pars and three bogeys in a round of 1-over 72 which left him in tie for 59th with teammate Ian MacKay and others. MacKay, competing as an individual, had three birdies along with four bogeys in also finishing at 1-over 72.
- Eirik Thomassen and Brandon McDonough are both tied for 78th at 2-over 73. McDonough tied for team-high honors with four birdies while Thomassen played an error-free final 11 holes at 2-under.
- Paul-Louis Gachet, who is tied for 94th,  posted pair of eagles on Friday on his way to a 3-over round of 74.
- Thomas Burou rounded out the CSUN scoring as he is tied for 118th at 8-over 79.
