Matadors Ninth After Two Rounds at Omaha's Big-O Classic

OMAHA, Neb. - The CSUN women's golf team posted team rounds of 333 and 331 and is in ninth place after two rounds Monday of the Big-O Classic at Oak Hills Country Club.Â
Sophomore Fernanda Sosa Stackpole is the low Matador player through two rounds as she is 32nd at 16-over 162. Sosa Stackpole had 10 pars and eight bogeys in carding an opening round 8-over 81. She then added two more birdies in round two which also ended with a second consecutive round of 81.
With rounds of 302-307 for a 36-hole score of 664, the Matadors are ninth in the field. Creighton (610) holds the 36-hole team lead by three shots over Wichita State (613). Creighton also has the individual leader as Eleanor Hudepohl (-2, 144) has a four-shot lead over teammate Gabby Tremblay (+2, 148).

"Coming into the tournament short-handed, I am really proud of the way my team fought today and kept a very positive team mentality at the end. I have a great group and know that we have a bright future."
The Matadors will be paired with Lindenwood and Western Illinois for the final round which gets underway Tuesday morning at 9:48 a.m. local time.

- Freshman Kim Turgut had an eagle and one birdie in round one on her way to the first of consecutive rounds of 10-over 83. Turgut then added two birdies in round two and finished the day tied for 37th at 20-over 166.
- Elle Laur is a shot behind Turgut in a tie for 39th at 21-over 167 following rounds of 87-80. Laur's second round 80Â featured 11 pars and seven bogeys.
- Gracie Piar rounded out the CSUN scoring as the freshman is tied for 50th at 23-over 169. Piar opened with a 9-over 82 before posting a pair of birdies in a 14-over 87 in round two.Â
