BARRON LEADS BIG WEST WITH SIX TRIPLE-DOUBLESÂ
After posting her first career triple-double in CSUN's five-set win over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Sept. 16, Carisa Barron has notched five triple-doubles in 17 Big West matches. The only Big West women's volleyball player with multiple triple-doubles this season (UC Riverside's Tayler Hifo has one), Barron has three triples in her last seven matches.
The sophomore from Bakersfield, who notched her sixth of the season at UC Riverside (12 kills-10 digs-19 assists) last week, has emerged as one of CSUN's top offensive threats this season. She ranks third on the Matadors with 234 kills (2.02 kps) while also averaging a team-high 5.10 assists per set along with 2.18 digs per set. With 696 total attacks this season, she has taken the most swings from the setter spot since Sydney Gedryn had 406 attacks in 2012.
MITCHELL EARNS TWO BIG WEST PLAYER OF THEÂ WEEK AWARDS
Breanna Mitchell was named Big West Defensive and Freshman of the Week after collecting 51 digs while averaging 5.67 digs per set as the Matadors split road matches at UC Riverside and UC Davis last week. In Thursday night's come-from-behind five-set victory at UC Riverside, the true freshman out of Temecula and Linfield Christian School equaled the program's rally-scoring-era single-match record of 34 digs to lead all players. That total is also the fourth-best in school history overall, and tied for second-most in a Big West contest in 2022. On Saturday afternoon in a four-set loss at UC Davis, Mitchell added a team-high 17 digs along with a pair of aces. Mitchell is now a two-time Big West Defensive Player of the Week and Big West Freshman of the Week, having also earned the pair of recognitions together back on Sept. 19.
