Four in Double Figures Lead CSUN Past UAV 89-59

NORTHRIDGE, Calif.—Four CSUN players scored in double figures as the Matadors defeated the University of Antelope Valley 89-59 in a women's basketball exhibition game Saturday afternoon at Premier America Credit Union Arena.
FIRST HALF
CSUN opened the game on a 10-1 run, highlighted by six Tess Amundsen points. The Pioneers battled back, outscoring the Matadors 10-5 over the final five minutes of the first quarter to cut the CSUN advantage to 16-11 at the end of one period.
An Ashley Del Rio fast break layup a minute and half into the second period further reduced the CSUN lead to 18-14. The Matadors mounted a 7-2 charge that pushed lead to 25-17. With the Pioneers 28-19, UAV's Janae Turner was whistled for a technical foul. Ana Carolina De Jesus made both free throws for the Matadors.
With CSUN getting the ball at half court, Michelle Duchemin's layup turned it into a four-point possession and extended the lead to 13. Up 32-21, CSUN outscored UAV 7-2 in the final two minutes of the first half, taking a 39-23 advantage into half.
SECOND HALF
The Pioneers were aggressive in the third quarter. UAV drove to the lane, drawing four CSUN fouls in the first five minutes. The aggression was rewarded as the Pioneers went 6-for-6 from the free throw line and 5-of-7 from the field. UAV trailed 48-39 at the media timeout midway through the frame.
The Pioneers closed to 52-44 at 3:45 when Cypree Stevens sank a three-pointer. Macy Smith responded with a three-pointer on the ensuing possession for the Matadors. CSUN increased the lead to 61-49 with 29 seconds remaining in the period on a pair of Amundsen free throws. UAV turned the ball over on their next possession, beginning a sequence in which Jordan Rogers-McAdams was called for a foul and a technical foul.
CSUN was awarded four free throws. Duchemin made the first pair, followed by Jordyn Jackson who connected on both. With 15 seconds on the clock, the Matadors took over at halfcourt. CSUN ran a play for Jackson who made a driving layup at the buzzer for a 67-49 Matadors' score.
CSUN dominated the fourth quarter. The Matadors outscored the Pioneers 22-10. CSUN held UAV to 4-of-16 from the floor in the final 10 minutes. CSUN forced six turnovers which were turned into eight points. Laney Amundsen scored all seven of her points in the game in the final stanza.
THE STATS
Tess Amundsen led all scorers with 16 points. Jackson posted 14 points while Kayanna Spriggs charted a double-double of 10 points and 10 rebounds. Duchemin tallied 10 points, eight rebounds, and three assists. All 13 players who dressed for CSUN scored at least one point. Turner and Kendall Weary both scored 15 to pace the Pioneers.
CSUN made 29-of-65 from the field (44.6%) while holding UAV to 35.6% shooting (21-of-59). The Matadors outrebounded the Pioneers 54-27, 16-3 on the offensive glass. CSUN scored 30 points off of 19 UAV turnovers. The Matadors were 26-of-33 from the free throw line (78.8%) while the Pioneers were 11-of-18 (61.1%). The Matadors never trailed in the game with the contest with CSUN leading for 39:16.
