The Matadors open its 48th year of competition with a pair of games against Pac-12 foes in the bay area. The season gets underway at the University of California on Monday at 4 p.m. The road trip continues Tuesday night at No. 2 Stanford for a 6 p.m. start. Both games will be streamed on Pac-12.com with all links on GoMatadors.com

ABOUT CAL
The Bears went 11-13 last season, losing in the first round of the Pac-12 Tournament to Utah. The Bears were picked 11th in the preseason Pac-12 women's basketball poll.

Sophomore Jayda Curry became the first player in Pac-12 history to lead the conference in scoring as a freshman (18.6 ppg). She was named the 2022 Media Freshman of the Year and earning an All-Pac-12 honorable mention and being named to the Pac-12 All-Freshman team.

Cal leads the all-time series against CSUN 6-2.

ABOUT STANFORD
Stanford went 32-4 last season, just failing short of repeating as national champion as the Cardinal lost in the Final Four to UConn. The team was picked first in the preseason Pac-12 women's basketball poll.

The Cardinal are led by the tandem of Haley Jones and Cameron Brink. Jones who was named the most outstanding player of the 2021 NCAA Tournament. The 2022 Pac-12 Player of the Year, Jones averaged 13.2 points, 7.9 rebounds, and 3.7 assists per game.
Brink led Stanford in scoring last season (13.5), rebounding (8.1), blocks (91), and field goal shooting (55.0%). She was the 2022 Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year and a finalist for the 2022 Naismith Defensive Player of the Year.

The Cardinal host San Diego State on Monday before welcoming the Matadors to Maples Pavilion.

Stanford leads the all-time series against CSUN 4-0 with all four games being played at Stanford.

AMUNDSEN NAMED TO THE PRESEASON ALL-CONFERENCE TEAM
CSUN forward Tess Amundsen was named to the 2022-23 All-Big West Women's Basketball Preseason Coaches' Team on Oct. 20.

Amundsen was declared the 2021-22 NCAA Division I statistical champion for Three-Point Field Goal Percentage. Amundsen shot 49.1% from three-point range (56-for-114). Her top individual shooting game occurred on Feb. 19 when she went 5-for-6 at Cal State Fullerton. Amundsen scored a season-high 32 points at Long Beach State on Feb. 17 when she went 5-of-7 from beyond the three-point arc in the 62-57 overtime victory against The Beach.

A second team All-Conference selection, Amundsen finished the season 142nd (250 ranked) in Division I in made three-point field goals per game (2.0) and 239th (250 ranked) in scoring (14.1). She paced the team in scoring, field goal shooting (47.3%, 138-292), and free throw shooting (89.9%, 62-69). Amundsen was second on the squad in rebounding (4.8). The Fresno native added 23 assists and 20 steals. She was 1-of-2 players (Jordyn Jackson being the other) to start all 28 games for the Matadors during the 2021-22 campaign.
CSUN TO WEAR NH PATCH in 2022-23
In August 2022, CSUN Athletics lost a member of the Matador family with the passing of Men's Basketball student-athlete Nick Herrmann. A talented basketball player and a special human being, Nick was an inspiration to the university on and off court.

This season is dedicated to his memory and his unparalleled fighting spirit. Throughout this season, both the CSUN men's and women's basketball teams will wear a patch with Nick's initials in memory of his everlasting impact on the CSUN basketball programs.
