UC Davis Hands CSUN a 58-50 Defeat

NORTHRIDGE, Calif.---UC Davis defeated CSUN 58-50 Thursday night Big West Conference Women's Basketball action at the Matadome. Â

FIRST HALFÂ
The Matadors limited the Aggies to three field goals in the first quarter as CSUN took a 15-8 lead after 10 minutes. Jordyn Jackson of CSUN scored the first basket of the second quarter to push the Matadors to their largest lead of the half. UC Davis rallied as the Aggies mounted a 15-4 charge that resulted in a 23-21 UCD lead on a Kayla Konrad three-pointer with just over two minutes remaining. Â

The Aggies' Cierra Hall and Lena Svanhol made back-to-back three-pointers in the final minute of the first half to extend the advantage to 29-23 before Meghann Henderson sank her second three-pointer of the half at the buzzer to send the score into halftime 29-26 in favor of the Aggies. Â

SECOND HALFÂ
UC Davis started the third quarter by scoring 12 straight points raising the Aggies' run to 26-5 dating back to the first half before a Jackson three-pointer broke the drought midway through the third quarter. The Aggies outscored CSUN 17-7 in the third to go up by 13, 46-33. Â

A Jackson field goal and a pair of Tess Amundsen free throws helped the Matadors reduce the lead to nine, two minutes into the period. Sage Stobbart and Hall combined to score the next 10 points in the game for UC Davis to provide the largest lead of the game for either team, 56-37, at the 5:35 mark. The Matadors kept fighting, outscoring UC Davis 13-2 in the final five minutes which created the final eight-point victory margin for the Aggies.Â

Henderson led all scorers with a season-high 16 points. She also grabbed a team-high seven rebounds and made three steals. Jackson was the only other CSUN player in double-figures as she scored 11. Hall paced UC Davis with 15 points, five assists, and three rebounds. Konrad had 10 points. Stobbart scored eight points and pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds. Â

The Aggies (13-10, 7-6 Big West) were 3-of-16 from the field in the first quarter. UC Davis went 19-of-36 over the remaining 30 minutes to finish 42.3% from the floor on the night. The Matadors shot 37.5% (18-of-48) during the game. UC Davis outrebounded CSUN 40-25. CSUN made 12 steals and forced 16 turnovers. The Aggies forced 14 turnovers and tallied seven steals. Â
