CSUN Welcomes UC Davis & UC Riverside to The Matadome This Week

NORTHRIDGE, Calif.—The CSUN Women's Basketball team (9-14, 5-8 Big West) begins a three-game homestand this week with games against UC Davis and UC Riverside.

CSUN welcomes the Aggies to the Matadome on Thursday night for a 7 p.m. matchup. Before Thursday's game, there will be a Pre-Plaza Party presented by Aspire Apartments that gets underway at 5:30 on the Matadome's West Patio. The party will feature a DJ, free food & giveaways, and free Chaos Student Section T-Shirts while they last. All CSUN Students get into Matadors' games for free.

UC Davis dropped an 85-74 decision to CSU Bakersfield last Saturday to fall to 12-10 overall, 6-6 in Big West play. Cierra Hall was named Big West Player of the Week on Feb. 21 after averaging 25.5 points and 10.0 rebounds in two games last week. Hall is third in the Big West in scoring (15.4) and rebounding (8.5). Hall is fourth in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.4), fourth in minutes played (34.3), sixth in assists (3.5), seventh in free throw shooting (76.9). UC Davis defeated the Matadors 48-41 Jan. 22 in Davis. The Aggies lead the all-time series 29-17.

UC Riverside travels to Northridge on Saturday with the action getting underway at 2 p.m. Meghann Henderson, the lone CSUN senior/grad student will be honored before the start of Saturday's game.

UC Riverside won a pair of games last week at CSU Bakersfield and Cal Poly to improve to 9-10 overall, 6-6 in the Big West. Keilanei Cooper is fifth in the Big West in field goal shooting (39.8). She is seventh in scoring (13.7) and steals (1.7). The Highlanders defeated the Matadors 59-41 Jan. 20 in Riverside. The all-time series is tied at 33.

CSUN is heading towards the Big West Tournament with four games remaining in the regular season. All 10 eligible teams advance to the tournament with teams that finish in seventh, eighth, ninth, and 10th place in the regular season having to begin the tournament on Tuesday, Mar. 8. The winners of the 7-10 and 8-9 games advance to play on Wednesday, Mar. 9.

Currently, Cal State Fullerton and CSUN are tied for seventh seed (5-8) with CSU Bakersfield in ninth (2-8) and Cal Poly (2-9) in 10th. UC Davis and UC Riverside are tied for the fifth seed (6-6). Hawai'i currently leads the conference (9-3) followed by Long Beach State and UC Irvine who are tied with a 10-4 mark. UC Santa Barbara sits in fourth (7-6).

Tess Amundsen recorded her second 30-point performance of the season on Jan. 17 at Long Beach State when she recorded 32 points against The Beach. Amundsen scored 12 of the 21 first half points for the Matadors against LBSU. She had 28 of the 44 CSUN points through three quarters. Amundsen scored only four points in the fourth quarter and overtime as Long Beach State double-teamed her throughout the final period.

She was 10-of-14 from the floor, 5-of-7 from three-point range, and 7-of-7 from the free throw line. Her 32-point effort was the most points scored in a game by a CSUN player since Channon Fluker posted 34 against Hawai'i on Jan. 25, 2018.

Her previous 30-point effort came on Nov. 23 when she scored 31 points in leading CSUN past Fresno State 81-75. She is the first CSUN player to have multiple 30-point games in a season since Fluker posted three during the 2017-18 campaign.

Entering this week's play, Amundsen is the Division I leader in three-point field goal shooting percentage (50.5, 43-97). She is leading the Matadors in scoring (13.6) and is second on the team in rebounding (4.5).
