Myklebust Ties for 42nd to Lead CSUN at The Gold Rush

SEAL BEACH, Calif. - Redshirt freshman Julia Myklebust finished in tie for 42nd to pace the CSUN Women's Golf team Tuesday as the Matadors completed play at The Gold Rush hosted by Long Beach State at Old Ranch Country Club.
The Matadors carded a final round 327, slightly better than their second round 328, but remained 12th as a team at 978. USC (863) led from start to finish in the 12-team field, finishing 36 shots ahead of second place UCLA (899). Hawai'i (903), Pepperdine (914) and Fresno State (914) rounded out the top-five teams. The Trojans also had the individual winner as Amari Avery won by six shots at five-under 211.
Myklebust was CSUN's low player the entire tournament as she followed up rounds of 79-78 on Monday with a final round 80 to finish at (+21) 237. She was eight-over after her opening eight holes before a string of four birdies over her next seven holes dropped her to five-over for the round. Myklebust would finish with a bogey, a par and a double-bogey to complete her round at eight-over.

"My team hit good shots into the greens, but they just wouldn't hold. We're going to use this tournament as a learning experience and focus our attention on short game precision."
The Matadors will be back in action Mar. 10-12 when they travel to St. George, Utah for the Pizza Hut Lady Thunderbird Invitational at Sunbrook Country Club.

CSUNÂ SCORES
- In addition to Myklebust, Julia Johansson had one birdie on Tuesday in posting her second round of (+10) 82. With rounds of 82-80-82, Johansson finished tied for 53rd at (+28) 244.
- Kiran Sangha finished two strokes behind Johansson at (+30) 246 after making one birdie in a final round (+11) 83. Sangha wound up posting rounds of 78-85-83 to finish in a tie for 56th.
- Fernanda Sosa also finished with a single birdie on Tuesday to finish her round at (+10) 82. Sosa finished the tournament with rounds of 84-85-82 to tie for 66th at (+35) 251.
- Grace Bettis rounded out the Matador scoring as she finished 73rd at (+44) 260 following rounds of 88-85-87.
