Matadors Shutout UCR For 18th Straight Win Over Highlanders

NORTHRIDGE, Calif.—CSUN defeated UC Riverside 5-0 in Big West Conference Women's Tennis action Saturday afternoon at the Matador Tennis Complex.
Ekaterina Repina and Sasha Turchak got the dual underway by defeating Natalie Shamma and Niki Shahbazi 6-1. Jolene Coetzee and Ana Isabel Fraile Toboso defeated Mahli Silpachai and Hanh Pham 6-1 at No. 1 doubles to secure the point.
Turchak shut out Serina Saltzen, 6-0, 6-0 to score the first singles point for CSUN. Coetzee defeated Pham 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2. Fraile Toboso picked up a 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 3. Freshman Jasmine Tolmoyan, playing in her first match of the year, won in straight sets (6-1, 6-4) at No. 6 against Sydney Tran in the final scored singles match of the day.
"I am so happy that the team came together and supported each other today, and supported each other more than ever, especially with my injury; they pushed me through the match," Coetzee said.
"I am so grateful for the opportunity to play today and so thankful to have teammates that support me," Tolmoyan. "I couldn't have asked for anything better. I felt very tight at first, but I became more relaxed and trusted my shots! Overall, I had lots of fun today!"
The team victory was the 18th in a row for CSUN against the Highlanders and the 41st in 42 all-time meetings against UCR (3-11, 0-6 Big West).
