Four Matadors Earn Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar Honors

NORMAN, Okla. - For the first time in program history, the CSUN men's golf program had four student-athletes named All-America Scholar by Srixon/Cleveland Golf.
Senior Paul-Louis Gachet, junior Eirik Thomassen and sophomore Brandon McDonough are all repeat honorees from 2021 while Felix Schrott is a first-time honoree as 440 NCAA Division I athletes from 157 schools earned Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar honors in 2021-22.![]()
Gachet earned a spot for the second time as well as Big West All-Academic honors this season. He competed in all 12 tournaments and 33 rounds for the Matadors, finishing the season with a career-best 74.00 scoring average after taking 2,442 strokes over 33 rounds. He posted a top-10 finish, tying for eighth at four-over 220 at the Bill Cullum Invitational (Oct. 11-12) and posted his best-ever Big West Championship finish, tying for 15th at four-over 220 following rounds of 74-68-78.
In his third season at CSUN, Thomassen also competed in all 12 tournaments and 33 rounds for the Matadors during his junior season, finishing third on the team with a career-best 73.12 scoring average after taking 2,413 strokes over 33 rounds. Thomassen led CSUN with six top-20 finishes, including tying for second in two tournaments. He fired an even-par 216 (70-74-72) to finish second at CSUN's Bill Cullum Invitational and was also carded a four-under 140 (67-73) to take second at the UC Santa Barbara Collegiate (Apr. 11-12), while also posting 17th, 18th and a pair of 19th place finishes during the season.
McDonough competed in 10 tournaments and 29 of CSUN's 33 rounds during the 2021-22 season, finishing the season with a 75.28 scoring average after taking 2,183 strokes over 29 rounds. His low round of the season (-1, 71) came in the final round of the Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational (Sept. 10-12) and low tournament score (+5, 218) came at the Visit Stockton Pacific Invitational (Oct. 21-23). He was one of four Matadors (Gachet, Schrott, Thomassen) named to the Big West All-Academic Team.![]()
Schrott competed in 10 tournaments and 27 of 33 rounds in his first season at CSUN in 2021-22 after transferring from College of the Canyons. He ranked second on the team to Blake Brothers (71.07) with a 72.41 scoring average after taking 1,955 strokes over 27 rounds. Schrott, who earned second team All-Big West honors, led the Matadors with three top-10 finishes while also adding a pair of top-20 showings. He finished alone in third place at the Ka'anapali Classic Collegiate (Oct. 29-31) and tied for third at the Nick Watney Invitational (Sept. 27-28).
"Each of these four guys set a great example to the rest of the team on how you can manage academics, golf and a social life," said head coach Jim Bracken. "They all show great leadership and I'm really proud of all their success not only on the golf course but more importantly in the classroom."
To be eligible for Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar nomination, an individual must be a sophomore, junior or senior both academically and athletically in NCAA Division I, II, III, and NAIA, or receiving their Associate's Degree and in their last year of athletic eligibility in the NJCAA. In addition, they must participate in 50 percent of their team's competitive rounds, have a stroke average under 76.0 in NCAA Division I, under 78.0 in NCAA Division II, under 79.0 in NCAA Division III, under 78.0 in NAIA, and under 77.0 in NJCAA, and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.
