CSUN Cross Country Embarks on Big West Championship on Friday

NORTHRIDGE, Calif.---CSUN Cross Country sets its sights on the 2023 Big West Men's and Women's Cross Country Championships on Friday morning at Blacklake Golf Resort in Nipomo, Calif. and hosted by Cal Poly. The men's 8K race is scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m., followed by the women's 6K race at 9:15 p.m.

CSUN had a strong showing at the Santa Clara Bronco Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 14.
On the women's side, Unique Ford made her Matador debut by running a personal-best 6K time of 21:03.2 and charting 27th-place points (30th overall). Ford's time was the third-fastet in the CSUN record book. Nicole Contreras would also record 60th-place points (64th overall) with a time of 21:39.2. The CSUN women improve their time from its showing at the previous year's event, posting a team time of 1:49.19.10 (recorded 1:54:34.20 in 2022).
Daniel Rodriguez led the men's side in the 8K with a personal record time of 24:33.7 (39th-place points, 44th overall). His mark was the fifth-fastest 8K time in the school's record book. Noah Contreras would also record the seventh-fastest time, running 24:43.8 (50th-place points, 57th overall). As a team, the men improved their team time over the previous year as well, posting a time of 2:04:34.50 (2:05.02.50 in 2022).
LEADING THE WAY
Atticus Hall has led the CSUN men at two different events this season. He would finish with a time of 18:55.7, finishing with 32nd-place points (40th overall) on a 6K course at the Big West Preview. Hall then led the team again at the UC Riverside Invitational with a 8K time of 24:58.0, charting 76th-place points (86 overall).
Nicole Contreras turned in the top CSUN women performances through the first two events of the fall season as well. At the Big West preview, she received 36th-place points (41st overall) with a time of 19:08.3 on a 5k course. Contreras again paced the team with a time of 21:31.6, collecting 33rd-place points (41st overall) on a 6K course at the UC Riverside Invitational. Her time at that invite was the fifth fastest in school history.
A LOOK BACK AT 2022
Camilo Torres paced the CSUN men at last season's Big West Championship, turning in a time of 24:54.4 (28th-place points) while Nicole Contreras led the CSUN women with a time of 22:10.5 (45th-place points). As a team, the men finished in eighth and the women came in ninth place at the event.
