Cross Country Set to Compete at NCAA West Regional Friday

NORTHRIDGE, Calif.---CSUN Cross Country is set to compete in the 2023 NCAA West Regional this Friday morning. The race will be held at Haggin Oaks Golf Course and will be hosted by Sacramento State.
The women's 6K race will kick off the morning at 10 a.m. while the men's 10K race is set to begin at 11 a.m.
Competing with CSUN will be Arizona, Arizona State, Boise State, Cal Poly, Cal State Bakersfield, Cal State Fullerton, California, California Baptist, Eastern Washington, Fresno State, Gonzaga, Grand Canyon, Hawai'i, Idaho, LMU, Long Beach State, Oregon, Oregon State, Pacific, Pepperdine, Portland, Portland State, Sacramento State, San Diego, San Diego State, San Francisco, San José State, Santa Clara, Seattle U, Saint Mary's, Stanford, UC Irvine, UCLA, UC RIverside, UC Santa Barbara, UNLV, Washington, Washington State, UC Davis, UC San Diego, USC and Utah Tech.

For the men, the Matadors will send senior Noah Contreras, juniors Ramiro Mateos and Daniel Rodriguez, sophomores Cesar Cuevas, Atticus Hall, Kai Smith and Camilo Torres, and freshman Yaseen Sardar.
Representing the Matador women include senior Sonia Avila, juniors Vanessa Avila, Leann Hamilton and Elin Markarian, and sophomores Nicole Contreras, Unique Ford and Rachael Simpson.
A LOOK BACK AT 2022
At last year's NCAA West Regional, Camilo Torres broke the CSUN men 10K Division I school record by running 30:57.7. Elin Markarian would lead on the women's side with a time of 22:11.3, which at the time was the 10th best in school history in the 6K. As a team, CSUN's men finished 27th while the women finished 34th.
PREVIOUS RACE
The Matadors competed at the 2023 Big West Championships on Friday, Oct. 27 at Blacklake Golf Resort. The men finished eighth in the event while the women came in ninth place as a team. Atticus Hall led the men, posting a personal record 8K time of 24:57.1 to score 26th-place points (26th overall). Unique Ford would lead the women for the second-straight race, running a time of 21:55.3 in the 6K and scoring 28th-place points (29th overall).
