Tennis to Host CSUN Fall Invitational this Weekend

NORTHRIDGE, Calif.---CSUN Tennis wraps up the fall season this weekend with its annual CSUN Fall Invitational from Friday through Sunday at Matador Tennis Complex. Each day will have three sessions with singles play scheduled for 9 a.m., doubles play set for 12 p.m. and another series of singles matches at 1 p.m.
The invitational will be held under hidden dual format. Along with CSUN, other teams competing at the invitational include Cal Lutheran, Cal State Fullerton, Middle Tennessee State, Pacific, Portland, UC Irvine, UTEP, Westmont and Youngstown State.
CSUN had a successful weekend at last year's home Fall Invitational, posting 15 victories in 18 chances on day one, 13 wins in 18 matches on day two and another 10 victories in 16 chances to close the event on day three.
LAST TIME OUT
CSUN last competed at the ITA Southwest Regionals from Oct. 19-21. The Matadors posted two wins in the round of 64 in doubles play as Cindy Ung and Vitoria Solis Urdiales defeated a team from UC Irvine, 8-5 while CSUN's Yuliia Zhytelna and Angela Ho beat UC Irvine's duo 4-1. The tandem of Zhytelna and Solis Urdiales would also pick up an impressive win over a Hawai'i team, 7-5 to close the weekend.
In singles play, Angela Ho claimed a victory in the round of 128 over USC's Gabrielle Lee (6-1, 6-0) while the Matadors had three more singles wins on day two of the event from Zhytelna (6-1, 1-6, 10-7 vs. Long Beach State), Sofia Dermenjyan (4-6, 6-1, 11-9 vs. UC San Diego) and Emma Moratalla Sanz (6-2, 2-6, 12-10 vs. UC San Diego). Solis Urdiales would win on the final day (3-6, 6-1, 10-5 vs. Cal State Fullerton) along with Dermenjyan winning again as well (6-0, 4-6, 11-9 vs. UC Riverside).
