CSUN Travels to No. 2 UCLA Thursday, Hosts San Diego on Sunday

FULL GAME NOTES
NORTHRIDGE, Calif.---CSUN Women's Basketball (2-4) continues its road schedule with No. 2 UCLA on Thursday at 7 p.m. The game will be available to stream on the UCLA Live Stream. The Matadors then return home to play against San Diego on Sunday at 2 p.m. inside Premier America Credit Union Arena on ESPN+.

ABOUT LAST WEEK
The Matadors fell at Sacramento State, 58-48, last Saturday afternoon. Erica Adams led the way in points with a team-high 13 while Kayanna Spriggs nearly came away with a double-digit rebounding effort, finishing with nine boards to go with five points.
CSUN would lead early in the game but the Hornets took control near the midway point of the first quarter. The Matadors fell behind by as many as 20 points in the third quarter before going on a 10-0 run and eventually pulling to within six with under three minutes to play. However, the late rally was not enough to close the gap.
WELCOME BACK ERICA
Junior guard Erica Adams made her return to the court last Saturday at Sacramento State after missing three consecutive games. Adams would score her 13 points on 4-of-9 shooting to go with a career-high eight rebounds. CSUN had gone 2-0 in Adams' first two games of her Matador career where she would average 15.0 points per game. A transfer from Pacific, Adams is averaging a team-high 14.3 points on 47.1 percent shooting while she is grabbing 5.3 rebounds per game.
FRESHMEN DUO LEADING THE WAY
CSUN's true freshmen duo of Kaitlyn Elsholz and Amiyah Ferguson have been a force for the Matadors in the early going this season. Each have led or shared the team lead in scoring three times this season while Ferguson has topped CSUN in assists four times. Elsholz, who was named Big West Player of the Week on Nov. 13, is second on the team in scoring at 11.0 points per game to go with averaging 3.3 rebounds and 1.5 assists. Ferguson is third on the team in scoring average at 9.3 points while dishing out 3.8 assists per game.
SPRIGGS MANAGING THE BOARDS
Junior forward Kayanna Spriggs has topped CSUN in rebounding in four games this season as she has averaged 7.5 per game in six starts. Spriggs has pulled down double-figure rebounds in two games this season after previously accomplishing the feat just once in her career. She has also led the team in steals per game (2.1) while averaging 8.0 points per game.
MATADORS ON THE BIG WEST CHARTS
CSUN enters play first in The Big West in blocks per game (4.3) and offensive rebounds per game (13.8) while the team is second in overall rebounds per game (38.7) and steals per game (11.0). The Matadors have also moved into third place in opponent 3-point field goal percentage (.270).
Individually, Kayanna Spriggs is ranked fifth in The Big West in rebounds per game (7.5) and steals per game (2.2). Amiyah Ferguson remains in fifth place in assists per game (3.8) while Kaitlyn Elsholz is fifth in the conference in blocks per game (1.2) and 15th in points per game (11.0).
SCOUTING UCLA
The second-ranked Bruins are undefeated at 7-0 on the season. Their most recent win was an 81-66 victory at Arkansas on Dec. 3. Among the Bruins' seven wins this season was a Nov. 24 victory over then sixth-ranked UConn. Last season, UCLA went 27-10 and advanced to the NCAA Sweet 16. This season, the team was picked to finish second in the preseason coaches and media poll. Lauren Betts tops the team in scoring average at 16.1 on 81.4 percent shooting to go with 8.9 rebounds per game. Gabriela Jaquez is averaging 15.3 points and 7.1 rebounds while Charisma Osborne is posting 14.1 points per game. Head coach Cori Close is in her 13th season leading the Bruins.
Series History: UCLA leads CSUN 11-1 in the all-time series with the Matadors only win coming on Dec. 20, 2012 by a 77-72 score. The Bruins have won two straight in the series including a 73-46 decision last season at Pauley Pavilion.Â

The Toreros have gone 3-5 on the season with losses in three-straight games. USD's last game was an 89-58 loss against No. 6 USC on Dec. 3. In 2022-23, USD had a 19-14 overall record and 11-7 conference mark for a third-place finish in the West Coast Conference. The team advanced to the Sweet 16 of the WNIT last season as well. USD was picked to finish third in the WCC this season. Kasey Neubert, who has missed the last four games, leads USD in points per game (12.5) and rebounding (9.3) while Veronica Sheffey is averaging 11.3 points and 4.8 assists. Head coach Cindy Fisher is in her 19th season leading the Toreros.
Series History: San Diego leads CSUN 19-4 in the all-time series with wins in 11 consecutive meetings. USD picked up a 73-57 victory over CSUN last season in San Diego. CSUN's last win in the series was a 75-54 win on Dec. 9, 2000.
