CSUN Falls To No. 2 UCLA on the Road

LOS ANGELES, Calif.—CSUN Women's Basketball fell to No. 2 UCLA 111-48 in Pauley Pavilion presented by Wescom on Thursday night. Amiyah Ferguson posted a new season-high with 21 points to go with six made 3-pointers for the Matadors.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Matadors would force the Bruins into four missed shots to begin the game, but UCLA still managed to start the game with an 8-0 run. The Bruins would end up shooting 10-of-20 from the floor in the first quarter, holding CSUN to 1-of-11 shooting in the stanza. The Matadors trailed 23-5 after 10 minutes but would get going on offense in the second quarter. CSUN received four made threes from Amiyah Ferguson in the second quarter alone. However, UCLA scored a game-high 33 points in the period to take a 56-19 lead into halftime.
CSUN continued to push in the second half but was unable to close the gap against the high-scoring Bruins. The lead would swell to 61-21 on a Kiki Rice three early in the third period. Ferguson knocked down another three with 2:38 left in the third period but the lead stood at 75-33. In the fourth period, Laney Amundsen knocked down a three of her own while Kaitlyn Elsholz followed with three on an Amundsen steal. UCLA completed an 18-0 run late in the fourth period to extend its lead further before Ferguson closed the scoring with her sixth 3-pointer of the night in the final seconds.

- CSUN drops to 2-5 on the season while second-ranked UCLA improves to 8-0.
- Amiyah Ferguson also recorded a season high with seven made field goals on 16 attempts.
- Laney Amundsen added nine points on 3-of-4 shooting from 3-point range.
- Amundsen, Arina Nikishina, and Alondra Lizama had three rebounds each to lead CSUN. Lizama would top the team with three assists.
- UCLA shot 58.1 percent for the night while CSUN finished with a 27.3 field goal percentage.
- CSUN had a higher 3-point field goal percentage than the Bruins on the night, 47.6 percent (10-of-21) to 30.4 percent (7-of-23).
- The Bruins led in rebounds, 54-18, and points in the paint, 64-2.
