Weather Costs CSUN Sunday Games in Santa Clara

SANTA CLARA—Mother Nature was the winner on Sunday as rain cost CSUN both of its softball games at the Silicon Valley Classic II.
GAME 1
CSUN led Utah State 3-0 in the fourth inning before rain halted the proceedings. The teams combined for one hit through the first three innings. Mikayla Carman led off the CSUN fourth with a single. Kaylee Escutia followed with a single, on which Carman took third. Kylie Galindo followed with a double that drove in both runners. Galindo took third on the throw. Kennedy Gustin ran for Galindo and scored on a Shaylan Whatman grounder with one out. Gizella Vargas Sandoval came up as a pinch-hitter.
The weather delay hit with the count 1-2 on Vargas Sandoval. Due to Utah State's travel, the game was halted, and due to the game not going five innings, the contest was ruled to be "no game." As a result, the statistics and outcome will not be counted. Alexis Martinez retired the nine batters she faced in the circle for the Matadors.
GAME 2
Rain canceled the second scheduled game between CSUN and Santa Clara.
UP NEXT
CSUN (8-12) plays at home for the first time on Tuesday when the Matadors host Colgate (6-12). Coverage begins at 10 a.m. on ESPN+.
