LOS ANGELES—Performances from siblings Noah and Nicole Contreras highlighted CSUN's times at UCLA's Bob Larsen Distance Carnival Friday night at Drake .
MEN
CSUN charted a pair of solid finishes.
Joseph Alipranti finished fifth in the men's hammer throw (169-9).
Noah Contreras, a senior, lowered his personal best in the 1500m by almost two seconds, as he posted a time of 3:51.12 to finish 11th.
WOMEN
The Matadors recorded a pair of top-10 finishes.
Nicole Contreras ran the fourth fastest 5000m by a CSUN freshman, 17:29.99, to finish ninth in the field of 29.
Sonia Avila competed in the 10000m, turning in an eighth-place showing (39:00.22).
ACCORDING TO ASSISTANT COACH DEVIN ELIZONDO
"I am proud of this evening's performances. Nicky led us off with an excellent debut 5k. Her pace was 20 seconds per mile faster than her team-leading 6k cross country races this past Fall. We are showing great improvements."
"Noah did a great job in a highly competitive 1500m race. He had a new lifetime best by over two seconds. This greatly supports his lifetime best 800m at the Santa Barbara meeting. Sonia ran a gutsy 25-lap 10k personal best to close out the meet. It was a nice lid on day one of the meet."
UP NEXT
CSUN remains at UCLA on Saturday when the Matadors enter the Jackie Joyner Kersee/Rafer Johnson Invitational. The field events begin at 11:30 a.m., with the running events starting at 1 p.m.
