CSUN Scores Twice in 55 Seconds to Defeat UNLV 3-1

NORTHRIDGE, Calif.—CSUN scored a pair of goals 55 seconds apart in the 79th minute as the Matadors defeated UNLV 3-1 in men's soccer action on Thursday night at Matador Field.
COACH DAVILA'S COMMENTS
CSUN jumped on the board early when freshman Jorge Solorzano scored in the sixth minute. A Solorzano ball went off a Rebels' defender into the lower left of the UNLV goal. The Rebels tied the match in the 32nd minute when Kai Merrill headed in a Mikah Madrid pass, which came off a Cesar Carbajal corner kick.
The first of the two game-changing goals came at 78:19 when Jamar Ricketts put back a Zion Wagoner rebound in front for his third goal of the season.
JAMAR RICKETTS' POST-GAME COMMENTS
After turning back, the Rebels on defense, Matthieu Mayindu, sent Jack Rhead on a breakaway. Rhead dribbled inside the UNLV box and passed to Sebastian Fuentes, who the Rebels' Brophy Howard tripped up. The Matadors were awarded the penalty kick, and Rhead was chosen for the attempt. The senior from Plymouth U.K. blasted the ball to the right of UNLV keeper Hugo Lemos for the goal at 79:14.
After being outshot 8-4 in the first half, CSUN outshot UNLV 12-3 in the second. The Matadors held a 9-5 advantage in shots on goal. Lemos made six saves, while CSUN's Cooper Wenzel made four saves. UNLV (1-3) took four corner kicks, compared to three for the Matadors.

- CSUN (2-0-3) is unbeaten after five games for the second time in four seasons.
- CSUN and UNLV played for the 20th time, with the Matadors now leading the all-time series 12-8.
- Wenzel started his 27th consecutive match in goal for CSUN, dating back to 2021, and has played 2,430 straight minutes for the Matadors. He entered the week as of 1-of-75 NCAA Division I goalies to have played every minute in goal this season for their respective team.
