The Highlanders quickly fired back as they went on a 9-2 run that was interrupted briefly by Ferguson. UC Riverside took the first quarter 11-10.
Â
CSUN came in strong in the second quarter as the Matadors refused to fold. Harvey and Li-Uperesa kept the team alive with their own shots. Spriggs tied the game at 16-16 with just over four minutes left. Together Li-Uperesa and Spriggs went on a 6-0 run as CSUN took the lead once more. The Highlanders didn't fold as theycut the lead to a one-point deficit in the final second. The Matadors led after the first half 22-21.
Â
UC Riverside came in strong as they opened the third quarter with a 6-0 run. Spriggs struck next with a layup, but the Highlanders kept their momentum. Harvey and Spriggs continued to fight, but it was a jumper from Erica Adams that brought the Matadors within 35-30. The Matadors continued to remain close, but UC Riverside kept its five-point lead as the quarter closed at 39-34.
Â
The Matadors refused to give up in the fourth quarter as Adams made a 3-pointer to cut the deficit to 41-37. The Highlanders managed to pull away though with a 9-0 run before Spriggs made a layup and free throw in the final six minutes. CSUN didn't get any closer than eight in the closing moments.
NOTES OF THE GAME
"The third quarter continues to be an issue for us, getting off to a good start. The numbers look a lot better by just glancing at them quickly – on the rebounding side of it. Any time you get after it and hold a team at 57 points, there's nothing I can fault about our effort, but we just didn't finish the game. We were 2-of-12 from three just looking at the game stats. I thought we attacked and got to the free throw line, especially in the first half."
