ABOUT LAST WEEK
CSUN is coming off a Sunday night 3-1 home win over UC San Diego at Matador Soccer Field. The Matadors roared back from a 1-0 deficit at halftime to score three goals over a 7:38 span in the second period. Cailey Jackson hit the equalizer in the 54th minute, scoring off a rebound. Just three minutes later, Kayden Perigo, who assisted Jackson on the goal, tapped in the go-ahead goal following a corner kick. CSUN added a third goal in the 61st minute on a free kick from Yoshi Rubalcaba before holding the Tritons at bay the rest of the way. In goal, Riley Liebsack finished with two saves to collect her fourth victory of the season.
The Matadors opened up last week with a heartbreaking 1-0 loss to first-place Hawai'i on Thursday at Matador Soccer Field. The teams battled to standstill for over 80 minutes until the Bows found the go-ahead goal in the 81st minute. CSUN looked for the equalizer in the closing minutes, eventually gaining a strong look from Ashly Torres in the 90th minute, but the attempt went high of the net. Liebsack was again strong in goal, producing six saves in defeat.
CSUN IN BIG WEST RANKINGS
As a team, CSUN has moved up to second in the Big West in save percentage (.789) and third in saves (78) while the Matadors are fifth in goals-against-average at a 1.43 clip. The team's 20 goals allowed are the sixth-least in the conference. Individually, Riley Liebsack remains the league leader in saves (75) as she ranks 16th in the nation in the category. On the offensive end, Yoshi Rubalcava is now up to eighth place in points with 10 and 10th in goals with four. Jordyn Canister also ranks seventh in shots on goal (13) and 10th in total shots (27).

True freshman Kayden Perigo also has scored multiple times this season, netting two goals, both of which in Big West play. Jordyn Canister and Jackie Victorio have the other two CSUN goals in 2024. TOO CLOSE FOR COMFORT
The Matadors competed in another one-goal match last week, bringing the team's total to nine in 14 matches with CSUN posting a 3-6 record in those contests. Six of the last nine matches have been decided by one goal with one of the other three matches going to a draw. CSUN's defense has been a key factor in helping stay close with the opposition as the Matadors have allowed just five goals through five Big West games along with eight over their last eight matches overall.
