CSUN Fires 3-under 281, Moves up to Ninth at Pacific Invitational

STOCKTON, Calif. - Freshman Bryson Barnes followed up a 2-under 70 in round one with a season-best 4-under 67 in round two to move into a tie for seventh while the CSUN men's golf team pace the Matadors after one round of the Visit Stockton Pacific Invitational on Tuesday at Stockton Country Club. As a team, the Matadors moved into ninth following a 3-under par 281 and will open the final round at even-par and just four shots out of the top five.

"We played a lot better today. We haven't made huge strides but we've improved each tournament. Bryson made the turn at 4-under and got as low as 6-under and Liam shot 2-under so those are the kind of scores we're capable of shooting. We just need to be consistent tomorrow and finish strong."

The Matadors will be paired with Cal State Fullerton and Idaho for the final round which gets underway Wednesday at 7:45 a.m.

- After posting four birdies in the first round, Barnes had six birdies and one eagle in round two to move up from 19th place into a tie for seventh at 5-under 137. Barnes' 23-hole total is the low for a Matador golfer in 2024.
- Sophomore Liam Judkins had four birdies in each of the first two rounds, but added 12 pars in round two to match his season-low round of 2-under 69. Judkins is tied for 21st at 2-under 140.
- Domenic De Luca also had four birdies in round two, finishing with a 2-over round of 73. De Luca is tied for 52nd at 3-over 155 through two rounds.Â
- Nick Fry moved up into a tie for 57th at 4-over 146 following rounds of 74-72 and freshman Tavin Boman is currently tied for 85th at 10-over 152 following rounds of 75-77.
- CSUN also has two individuals competing, Dillon Jonke is tied for 64th at 5-over 147 (72-75) and Yuo Torii is tied for 85th at 10-over 152 (78-74).
