CSUN Falls to San Jose State in Road Contest

San Jose, Calif – CSUN Women's Basketball dropped a battle to San Jose State, 62-44 Sunday afternoon at Provident Credit Union Event Center. With the defeat, the Matadors fall to 2-3 on the young season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Morgan Edwards hit a corner three from Erika Aspajo to get the scoring started. Buckets from Nnenna Orji and Aspajo gave CSUN a 7-6 lead here at the 06:23 mark. The game would go back and forth as Karsen Marshall hit a three to tie it at 13 all. SJSU would then go on a 7-0 run, ultimately ending the quarter at 22-15 in favor of the Spartans. The CSUN defense was strong as the Matadors forced five turnovers in the quarter.
The second quarter saw good defense from both teams. CSUN held SJSU to 26.7% shooting (4-15) as the Matadors had four blocks, highlighted by two coming from Orji.
However, CSUN couldn't capitalize on its good defense. The Matadors shot 2-18 and 0-8 from three, ultimately ending at five points for the period. The away team heading into the half down by the score of 36-20.
2ND HALF
Three consecutive layups from Orji, Morgan Edwards and Kelly Tumlin got CSUN off to a hot start to begin the 3rd quarter. Jenna Kilty hit a triple from the corner to pull CSUN within 13 (42-29) with 04:48 remaining.
The Matadors defense was once again on point as they held the Spartans to 4-18 shooting from the field and 2-13 from three in the third. Not much fell on the offensive end after the run to start. CSUN went 4-11 and 1-5 from three in the period.
CSUN started the fourth via a three-pointer from Edwards and a layup by Erica Adams. San Jose State would then start to make some shots. A three pointer by Sydni Summers extended the lead to 20 at 56-36. That basket was part of a 10-0 run by the Spartans. Kelly Tumlin broke the run on a reverse layup. Marshall and Tumlin would both hit late triples to trim down the lead. However, it just wasn't the Matadors' night on the offensive end. CSUN shot 28% from the field in the defeat.

CSUN heads back home to Northridge as the Matadors will take on the Pepperdine Waves, Wednesday, Nov. 27 at 2 p.m. at Premier America Credit Union Arena.
