NORTHRIDGE, Calif.---CSUN Women's Tennis opened the spring dual season and Big West play with a 7-0 victory over UC Riverside on Thursday at Matador Tennis Complex.

Sasha Turchak and Yuliia Zhytelna beat Brionna Nguyen and Kamya Nair 6-0 then Victoria Santibañez Luna and Cindy Ung were victorious over UCR's tandem of Crystal Kim and Maya Youssef 6-1. After winning the doubles point, the duo of Tallia Harper and Emma Moratalla Sanz led Sydney Tran and Niki Shahbazi 4-3.
In singles action, Nicole West won the first singles contest at No. 5 with a straight set 6-0, 6-1 decision over Kei Kato. At No. 3, Santibañez Luna beat Kim 6-2, 7-5. Next, Harper picked up another straight set win 6-3, 6-4 over Tran at No. 5.

"Today was a big fight, but we pulled through by the end," said Turchak. "I'm really proud of everyone!"
NOTES OF THE GAME
ACCORDING TO COACH GARY VICTOR
"Coach Fredo (Alfredo Carrasco, assistant director of athletic performance) is behind the success of this match. We started slowly in singles, had to shake the rust off a bit and UCR played very well. This being our first match, we had to adjust to the electricity in the air of a 'real match.' Sasha, Yuliia and Emma played outstanding third sets and Vika finished strong. Talli worked her way through, and Nicole had an awesome debut."
UP NEXT
CSUN has a quick turnaround as the Matadors travel to Santa Clara to play their next two matches. The Matadors face San Francisco on Friday at 3 p.m. on the campus of Santa Clara. CSUN then wraps up the weekend with a matchup with the host Broncos on Sunday at noon.
