CSUN Falls to UC Riverside on the Road

RIVERSIDE, Calif.---CSUN Women's Basketball fell to the UC Riverside 70-46 on Saturday night. Two Matadors scored in double digits: Talo Li-Uperesa with 13 points and Kaitlyn Elsholz with 11.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Matadors opened the game with a layup by Li-Uperesa. The Highlanders were quick to strike back and tie the game, but Kayanna Spriggs took back the lead with a free throw. UC Riverside didn't stay down as they got a 4-0 run, but Li-Uperesa struck again with a 3-pointer to tie game 6-6. The Highlanders tried to pull away again, but the Matadors kept the score even at 8-8 with a layup from Elsholz in the last three minutes. UC Riverside was able to take the first quarter with a 9-1 run.

The Highlanders kept their momentum going into the second quarter. The Matadors finally found an opening at the 6:35 mark as Spriggs made a jumper and free throw bringing the score to within 25-12. Li-Uperesa kept the momentum going with her own jumper, which was followed by Amiyah Ferguson's layup. The Highlanders sunk in their own basket, but Laney Amundsen struck right after with a layup as the Matadors climbed to within 27-18. UC Riverside made one more bucket as the first half closed at 29-18.

Li-Uperesa opened the third quarter with two free throws before the Highlanders struck. Spriggs made a layup as she brought the Matadors to within 31-22. UC Riverside went on a 6-0 run before Spriggs interrupted with a jumper at the 6:51 mark. After the Highlander bucket, Elsholz made her own basket. Spriggs and Li-Uperesa kept up the momentum as CSUN's pulled closer at 39-29. The Highlanders tried to increase its distance, but Elsholz didn't let them get far as she made a 3-pointer. She was followed by Ferguson's free throws, but the Highlanders took the third quarter and led 48-34.

The Matadors continued to fight as Amundsen and Elsholz each made a 3-pointer bringing the score within to within 62-42. The Highlanders continued to pull away, but Alondra Lizama continued the battle with her own layup. UC Riverside kept making baskets but was interrupted by Li-Uperesa's layup with 50 seconds left on the clock. It was the final time CSUN would score as the Highlanders took the game.
