CSUN Track & Field Set to Compete at UCI and Arizona This Week

NORTHRIDGE, Calif.---CSUN Track & Field will compete in two meets this week in the team's last tuneup before The Big West Championships in May. The Matadors will participate in the UC Irvine Steve Scott Invitational from April 26-27 while also a contingent will travel to the University of Arizona's Desert Heat Classic on April 27.

CSUN is set to take part in a host of events at the Steve Scott Invitational with the men's team competing the 3000m steeplechase, 5000m, 800m, mile run, hammer throw and long jump on Friday as well as the 800m, 110m-hurdles, 400m, 100m, 400m-hurdles, 200m, mile run, 4x400m relay, shot put, triple jump and discus throw on Saturday.
On the women's side, the team will participate in the 3000m steeplechase, 5000m, 800m, mile run, hammer throw and long jump on Friday while the team competes on Saturday in the 800m, 100-hurdles, 400m, 100m, 400m-hudles, 200m, mile run, high jump, discus throw, triple jump and shot put.

The Matadors have a small group scheduled for competition in sprints events along with a pair of field events. On the men's team, CSUN will participate in the 4x100 relay, 400m, 100m, 200m, long jump and triple jump while the women's team is scheduled to take part in the 4x100 relay, 100m and 200m.
TREY KNIGHT COLLECTS SECOND BIG WEST AWARD
Junior Trey Knight received his second Big West Field Athlete of the Week award of the season on April 23. Knight broke his own school record in the hammer throw with a PR of 76.99m (252-7), finishing second at the Mt. SAC Relays. His performance was the second-best in the nation of the outdoor season. Knight's previous hammer throw record was set on March 23 with a toss of 76.36m (250-6). Earlier this season, Knight won Big West Field Athlete of the Week award on March 26 while other CSUN Athlete of the Week winners this season have been David Phillips, Jr. (twice) and Chase Mars.
ABOUT LAST WEEK
CSUN competed at the Mt. SAC Relays from April 19-20. Dillon Peters took first place in the triple jump with a leap of 15.45m (50-4.50) to lead the way while Trey Knight finished second in the hammer throw with his school record toss of 76.99 (252-7). On the women's side, Katherine Shipp-Davis finished in fifth place in the discus with the sixth-best throw in school history at 51.62m (169-4). Amani Britton would also finish fifth in a separate discus throw event with a toss of 45.39m (148-11).
CSUN IN THE RANKINGS
In this week's USTFCCCA national rankings, the CSUN men's team was ranked 48th nationally and 14th in the west region. CSUN's women's team was ranked at No. 32 in the west region this week.
UP NEXT
Following this week's meets, CSUN will set its sights on the Big West Championships. Multi-events will take place from May 3-4 followed by the remainder of the championship events from May 10-11. The 2024 Big West Championship will reside in San Luis Obispo at the Miller & Capriotti Athletics Complex.
