Piar Fires Final Round 69 to Finish Third at Wolverine Invitational

SARATOGA SPRINGS, Utah - Behind a third-place finish from junior Gracie Piar, the CSUN women's golf team finished fifth at the conclusion of the season-opening Wolverine Invitational Tuesday at Talons Cove at Saratoga Springs.
After posting team rounds of 291-290 over two rounds on Sunday and Monday, the Matadors closed with an 8-over 296 on Tuesday to finish 5th in the 10-team field at 877. UC Irvine took the team title with a three-round score of 853, followed in the top five by UC Riverside (859), Santa Clara (867), Utah Tech (875), and CSUN.
Piar posted her best individual finish since taking fifth at William & Mary's Kingsmill Intercollegiate last March. She had six birdies and nine pars in carding a final round 3-under 69 which tied for the low round of the day and matched her season-low round from 2023-24. At 6-under 210 for the tournament, Piar finished just four shots behind individual winner Sophia Vargas of UC Riverside (10-under 206).

The Matadors will be back on the course in 12 days as CSUN travels to Worley, Idaho for the Eagle Invitational (Sept. 22-23) hosted by Eastern Washington at Circling Raven GC.

CSUNÂ SCORES
- Following Piar, freshman Ariya Soldwisch posted a 4-over 76 in the final round to tie for 16th, her first collegiate top-20 finish. Soldwisch, who began the day in seventh place at even-par 144, slipped into a tie for 16th place at 4-over 220.
- Nicole Tanoue made it three Matadors in the top 27, tying for 27th at 8-over 224. Tanoue carded a pair of birdies in a final round to finish at 5-over 77.Â
- Meghan Paracuelles also had a pair of birdies on Tuesday to card a final round 4-over 74 to finish tied for 29th at 9-over 225.
- Junior Kim Turgut had her best round of the tournament on Tuesday, posting a 3-over 75 to tie for 39th 13-over 229 (78-76-75).
- Sophomore Ellie Shirley, competing as an individual, finished 58th at 29-over 245 following rounds of 86-77-82.
