CSUN Visits Sacramento State on Wednesday Before Hosting North Dakota on Sunday

GAME NOTES
NORTHRIDGE, Calif.---CSUN Women's Soccer returns to the field for the first time in 11 days on Thursday afternoon in a road match at Sacramento State at 1 p.m. The Matadors will wrap up the week for the start of a three-match homestand on Sunday against North Dakota at 7 p.m. Each match will be broadcast on ESPN+.
LAST TIME OUT
CSUN has not competed since Sunday, Sept. 1 in a 2-1 loss at Oregon. The Matadors gave up two goals over a nine-minute span near the midway point of the match but showed fight down the stretch. In the 86th minute, an Oregon turnover in its final third gave CSUN a chance to strike as Kaylee Gutierrez intercepted the ball and found Cailey Jackson for the goal from 18 yards out. Shortly thereafter, CSUN earned a corner kick and nearly came away with a scoring chance from in front of the goal before the Ducks' defense cleared the play. Oregon would hold on in the closing moments in the win. In front of the goal, Riley Liebsack racked up nine saves in the contest.
MATADOR LEADERS
Cailey Jackson has already set a new career this season in goals with her team-high two this season. Jordyn Canister and Jackie Victorio have CSUN's two other goals this season. Canister, a freshman, has registered a team-best 14 shots with nine on goal while her one goal was a game winner against LMU on Aug. 25. The trio of Ashly Torres, Kaylee Gutierrez and Yoshi Rubalcava have one assist each. In goal, Riley Liebsack has seen every minute this season, posting 37 saves with a 2.00 goals-against-average. On the backline, Angelica Claiborne and Sami Kolin have played the most minutes among the field players with 516 each.
SCOUTING SACRAMENTO STATE
The Hornets are 1-3-2 on the season after dropping matches last week to Portland (4-0) and Oregon (2-0) on the road. Sacramento State has played three Big West teams this season, going 0-1-2 in those matches as the team earned draws with UC Santa Barbara and Cal Poly. Last season, the Hornets went 4-9-5 overall as well as 2-3-3 in the Big Sky. Prior to this season, Sacramento State was picked to finish fifth in the Big Sky by the league's head coaches. Ellie Farber has scored two of the team's four goals this season while she tops the team with five points. In goal, Izzy Palmatier has totaled 33 saves with a 1.67 goals-against-average in six matches.
Series History: CSUN leads Sacramento State 7-2-1 in the all-time series with wins in three straight. The teams last played in 2018 with CSUN collecting a 2-1 overtime win in Sacramento. Thursday's match will be just the teams' second meeting in 19 seasons.
SCOUTING NORTH DAKOTA
The Fighting Hawks are 4-2-2 on the season with wins in two straight. UND is coming off a 6-1 victory over Jamestown this past Tuesday. Prior to taking on CSUN, North Dakota travels to Montana on Thursday. In 2023, the Hawks went 5-7-6 overall with a 1-3-4 mark in the Summit League. In the Preseason Summit League Coaches' Poll, the Hawks were picked to finish ninth in the league. A total of 10 Hawks have scored goals on the season with six scoring multiple goals. Jessica Machovec has a team-high four goals while Kaylie Fowler has three goals and eight points. Grace Miller leads the team with 23 saves and a 1.01 GAA in goal.
