CSUN Sets Sights on The Master's Invitational on Saturday

NORTHRIDGE, Calif.--- CSUN will compete in its third meet of the 2024 season this Saturday morning at The Master's Invitational held at Central Park in Santa Clarita, Calif. The men's 5k race will begin at 8:00 a.m. whole the women's 6k race takes place at 8:45 a.m.
LAST TIME OUT
The Matadors completed their second invitational on Saturday, Sept. 21 at the UC Riverside Invitational. Several personal records were set for both the men's and women's teams.
Junior Camilo Torres led the men's side by setting a new personal record as well as the second-best 8k time in school history with a time of 24:25.1. Torres finished with 58th-place points and 68th overall. The next fastest men's runner was junior Cesar Cuevas with a time of 25:16.1 to finish with 128th-place points (149th overall) followed by freshman Thomas Achten who registered a time of 25:27.1 for 144th-place points (168th overall)

The CSUN men's team placed 25th with 665 points.Â

On the women's side, junior Ami Jacobson finished 25th overall with 16th-place points for the women's 5k. She set a PR time of 18:20.7. Up next, senior Elin Markarian finished 79th overall in the 5k with a time of 19:01.5 and finished with 57th-place points. Senior Sakura Divecchio recorded a new PR with a time of 19:17.7 for 82nd place points (111th overall) to come in third for the Matador women.

The CSUN women's team placed 12th out of 26 teams with 336 points.Â
MATADOR LEADERS
Torres has led CSUN's men's runners through two races this season. He also recorded a PR in the 6k in CSUN's first race of the season at the Pepperdine Waves Invitational on Aug. 30 as he recorded a time of 18:32.4 to finish 17th overall. On the women's team, Sakura Divecchio has a pair of top-three finishes this fall after she paced the squad with a school-record 4k time of 14:19.4 to finish 23rd overall at the Waves Invitational.

After Saturday's meet, CSUN will compete at the Highlander Invitational at UC Riverside on Saturday, Oct. 19 at 8:00 a.m. The Matadors then will set their sights on the 2024 Big West Cross Country Championships hosted by UC Riverside on Nov. 2 at 9:15 a.m.Â
