CSUN Wraps Up Big West Championships with More PR's Reached

RIVERSIDE, Calif.---CSUN Cross Country completed the 2024 Big West Championships with several personal records set.

Junior Ami Jacobson posted the seventh-best 6k time in school history to lead the women's team as the squad finished 10th. On the men's side, junior Cesar Cuevas topped the Matadors with a season-best 8k time while the team finished ninth. Â

WOMEN'S PERFORMANCES
Jacobson was the top women's runner for CSUN for a fourth time this season, registering a PR time of 21:47.0 to claim 50th-place points and a 56th overall finish.

Senior Elin Markarian crossed the finish line next for CSUN, posting a season-best time of 22:17.2 to chart 60th-place points and 72nd overall.

The next two CSUN runners each set personal records as junior Savannah Ganter had a time of 22:19.4 for 61st-place points (72nd overall) and senior Sakura Divecchio had time a of 22:39.1 for 65th-place points (80th overall). Senior Leann Hamilton rounded out the CSUN women's runners, registering a season best time of 23:08.3 for 69th-place points (89th overall).

As a team, CSUN was 10th with 305 points as Cal Poly took home the team title with 33 points. The Mustangs' Schuyler Gooley won the individual title with a time of 19:47.7.

MEN'S PERFORMANCES
Cuevas led the CSUN men's team with a time of 24:55.4, just missing a personal record as he finished with 36th-place points and 39th overall.

Senior Ramiro Mateos registered a season-best time of 25:23.7 to chart 53rd-place points and 60th overall. Up next, junior Camilo Torres finished at 25:31.6 for 56th-place points and 64th overall. Freshman Thomas Achten was the next fastest Matador at 25:34.2 to post 57th-place points and finish 65th overall.

Fellow freshman Darrick Jacob, Jr. had a PR of 25:49.7 to register 59th-place points and finish 73rd overall followed by junior Ja'Patrick Smith at 26:02.7 for 60th-place points (77th overall). Rounding out the Matador runners, junior Kai Smith had a season-best 8k time of 26:02.8 to chart 61st-place points (78th overall) while freshman Alec Flores had a PR of 26:02.9 to finish 81st overall.

CSUN men were ninth with 261 points while Cal Poly won the men's team title with 22 points. Individually, the Mustangs' Davis Bove finished first at 23:51.3.

"We ran well today on both sides as a team. On the men's side, Cesar Cuevas and Ramiro Mateos stepped up to lead the team as our first two runners to cross the line. Darrick Jacob was our fifth runner and closed out the scoring for us running a 35-second personal best. The women ran their best race of their season. Our team average time was 41 seconds faster than just two weeks ago. We had personal best times by Ami Jacobson (37 seconds), Savannah Ganter (58 seconds) and Sakura Divecchio (34 seconds)."

CSUN will head to the NCAA West Regional on Friday, Nov. 15. Washington State will host the event at the Colfax Golf Course.
