WORLEY, Idaho - The CSUN women's golf team fired a final round 289 to claim the team championship by three shots while freshman Ariya Soldwisch posted her best collegiate tournament finish Monday at the Eagle Invitational at Circling Raven G.C.
The Matadors, who last won a team tournament title in 2014 (Matador Invitational), were the only team to finish under par as CSUN set a program record for a 36-hole tournament. At 1-under 575, the Matadors shattered the previous record of 591 set at the Lamkin Cup/Cal Poly Invitational in 2009.Â
Soldwisch tied for first with Montana State's Lauren Greeny at 6-under 138. It marks CSUN's third individual title in the past three seasons and 26th overall in program history.
The tournament was originally scheduled for 54 holes but Sunday's opening round was canceled due to pin placements, limiting the event to 36 holes. CSUN (575) claimed the title by three shots over North Dakota State (578) with Seattle (584), Montana State (585), and UC Riverside (587) rounding out the top five. A total of 13 teams are competing.

"Words cannot describe the elation we have felt from this tournament. During the practice round, Meghan got her first ever hole-in-one! After the chaos from yesterday, my team kept their composure, went back on the course, and played their hearts out. Not having live scoring and waiting until dark to get the results was a nail-biter, but they came out again this morning cool and collected. Our team theme this year is "overcoming fear," and they did just that. They overcame a huge mental barrier by not only staying aggressive but also not focusing on the end result. We knew this day was coming - now that we've arrived, all I can say is "WATCH OUT!"

The Matadors will return to the course on Oct. 7 as CSUN travels to Portage, Mich. for the WMU Bronco Fall Classic at The Moors GC.
