Five Individual Wins and Two CSUN Records Set at Nevada Invitational

RENO, Nev.---CSUN Track & Field completed a three-day stay on Saturday at the Nevada Invitational with five individual victories and two new school records set.
The Matadors' men's team posted five first-place finishes while senior Trey Knight shattered his own school record and posted a national-best mark this season in the weight throw. The CSUN 4x400m relay team also set a new program record in their first-place finish. Junior Tibyasa Matovu took home first in the 400m and the long jump at the invite while Joey Nations picked up a first-place finish in the 60m.
TOP MEN'S PERFORMERS
Knight opened up his 2025 season with an all-time performance in the weight throw. After finishing last season as the national runner up in the event, Knight broke his own school mark with a toss of 24.87m (81-7.25) as he won the event by over six meters. His toss was the best thus far this season while it stood as the third-best collegiate throw of all-time and the eighth-best overall performance all-time.
CSUN's 4x400m relay team of Walter Pierce, Luke DaVanon, Wyatt Wiggins, Jr. and Tibyasa Matovu took home first place with a school record time of 3:12.2, besting the Matador unit that set the previous record in 2023.
Overall, it would be a stellar weekend for Matovu who first won the long jump on Friday with a PR of 7.48m (24-6.5). That mark was the eighth-best jump in school history. Matovu would close his individual performances with another victory, this time in the 400m where he posted the second-best time in school history at 46.91.
Nations claimed another CSUN first-place finish in the 60m. He first qualified for the finals by taking second in the prelims (6.95) before winning the finals with a PR time of 6.87.
In another 60m event, Chase Mars and Daniel Harper both qualified for the finals with prelim times of 6.72 and 6.84, respectively. In the finals, Mars was the runner-up, finishing second at 6.71 while Harper was seventh at 6.82.
CSUN had three top-10 finishes in the long jump. Behind Matovu, Nations was third with a leap of 7.17m (23-6.25) followed by Jay Louison-Roe who set a PR with 7.07m (23-2.5) to take sixth place.
The Matadors had a very competitive race in the 200m where James Crawford led the way with a third-place finish at 21.10 followed by Mars in fourth place at 21.16 and Wiggins in fifth at 21.28 (fifth-best time in school history).
In the shot put, Elijah Ignacio paced Matador throwers with a second-place finish of 16.95m (55-7.5) while Guillermo Lopez was fourth at 16.14m (52-11.5), Santiago Cerda was eighth at 15.11m (49-7) and Francisco Isiordia was ninth at 15.06m (49-5).
In other track events, Pierce took fifth place in the 400m (48.73) while DaVanon was seventh (49.26). The distance medley relay team of Ja'Patrick Smith, Darrick Jacob, Jr., DaVanon, Giovanni Moreno and Layne Buck took fourth place with a time of 11:02.62. Moreno was the fastest Matador in the 600m, taking seventh place at 1:23.03 while he paced CSUN once more in the 800m with a time of 1:56.82 to finish eighth.
Louison-Roe also finished fifth in the triple jump as well on the weekend, posting a mark of 14.62m (47-11.75).
TOP WOMEN'S PERFORMANCES
Summer Mosley had one of the top performances on the women's side all weekend as she finished second in the weight throw with the third-best mark in school history at 19.55m (64-1.75). Myli Level finished in the top 10 as well, placing ninth with a PR toss of 15.52m (50-11).
Kaliyah Poston was fifth in the 200m for CSUN, running a time of 24.14, which was the fifth-best time in school history. Poston also placed ninth in the 60m prelims where she ran at 7.63.
In the triple jump, Camryn Harris set a personal record by posting a mark of 11.82m (38-9.5) to take sixth place. In other field events, Amani Britton was the top Matador in the shot put with a PR toss of 13.61m (44-8) to take eighth in the event while Zola Grey claimed 10th place in the long jump with a leap of 5.72m (18-9.25).
In the multi-events, Brianna Kelpis was seventh overall in the women's pentathlon with 3,475 points. Kelpis was first in the shot put event where she posted a mark of 12.95m (42-6) while she took fifth in the 60m-hurdles at 8.99, placed sixth and set a PR in the long jump at 5.52m (18-1.5), finished eighth in the high jump at 1.54m (5-0.5) and placed 14th in the 800m at 2:49.68.
Grey also competed in a separate 200m sprint where she was 12th in the prelims at 7.99. Savannah Ganter was the top Matador in the 3000m where she ran a time of 11:09.78 to finish 14th while Alba Moreno Paredes was tied for 14th in the high jump with a mark of 1.63m (5-4.25).

"The team performed very well over the last three days. We came away with several wins, personal and lifetime bests, school records and a national leader. While I am happy with our overall outcome, we have a few things to improve upon. I believe in this team and our coaches, so I know we will continue to get better."
