Five Individual Wins Highlight CSUN’s Weekend at Wolf Pack Classic

RENO, Nev.---CSUN Track & Field claimed five individual victories over a two-day stay at the Wolf Pack Classic in Nevada from Feb. 7-8.
The CSUN men's team picked up the five first-place finishes with Tylor Connelly winning the weight throw and Chase Maris finishing first in the 60m finals on Friday. The trio of Jay Louison-Roe (triple jump), Elijah Ignacio (shot put) and James Crawford (200m) also won their respective events on Saturday.
MEN'S PERFORMANCES
A senior, Connelly picked up his first career individual win as a Matador by taking first in the weight throw. He also set a personal record in the event with a toss of 17.53m (57-6.25).
Mars was also victorious on Friday, taking first in the prelims of the 60m with a time of 6.67 before winning the finals with a season-best time of 6.65.
Louison-Roe won his second triple jump event of the indoor season by taking first with a mark of 15.32m (50-3.25). That final leap was a new personal record and the seventh-best mark in school history. Tzu-Ting Chan also finished in the top five in the triple jump, posting a leap of 14.46m (47-5.25).
Ignacio collected his first event win of the season, posting a PR in the shot put at 17.35m (56-11.25). Guillermo Lopez was sixth in the event, throwing at 16.15m (53-0) while Francisco Isiordia was seventh at 15.91m (52-2.5) and Santiago Cerda was ninth at 15.10m (49-6.5).
In the 200m, Crawford took first place with a time of 20.93. That time was the fourth-best indoor time in school history. Mars was a close second at 20.95.
Other strong performers included Joey Nations who was second in the long jump with a mark of 7.25m (23-9.5) while Layne Buck was eighth in the event with a PR of 6.88m (22-7). Walter Pierce was third in the 400m with a time of 48.21 followed by Luke DaVanon in seventh at 49.13. Camilo Torres was also fourth in the 3000m with a time of 8:44.67 while Thomas Achten was eighth at 8:55.93 and Cesar Cuevas was 10th at 8:59.53.
In the distance medley relay, the group of Achten, Buck, Cuevas and Torres was third with a time of 10:35.56.
WOMEN'S PERFORMANCES
Katherine Shipp-Davis had one of the top performances on Friday, posting a PR in the weight throw with a toss of 16.74m (54-11.25) to finish third overall. That toss was the 10th-best in school history. Marina McNeil-Vivanco was fifth, setting a PR of 16.17m (53-0.75) followed by Myli Level in eighth at 15.05m (49-4.5).
Kaliyah Poston had a strong showing all weekend as she was third in the 60m finals with a time of 7.48. Poston then went on to set a PR in the 200m on Saturday, running a time of 23.89 to finish seventh overall and record the secone-best indoor time in school history.
Amani Britton paced CSUN in the shot put, setting a PR of 13.87 (45-6.25) to finish third overall. Treasure Brown was seventh in the event with a toss of 12.83m (42-1.25) while Jocelyn Hoggard was eighth at 12.70m (41-8) and Shipp-Davis was 10th at 12.28m (40-3.5).
In the 60m-hurdles prelims, Brianna Kelpis was the top Matador in fifth place with a then PR time of 8.79 before she bested that time by running 8.78 to finish in seventh place.
In jumps, Camryn Harris set a PR with a mark of 12.02m (39-5.25) to take fifth place in the triple jump while Alba Moreno Paredes and Ashleigh Porter were fifth in the high jump with marks of 1.63m (5-4.25). Zola Grey paced CSUN in the long jump with a PR of 5.72m (18-9.25) to place sixth.
In distance races, Savannah Ganter was seventh to lead CSUN in the 3000m, posting a time of 10:52.88. Ami Jacobson took third place in the 5000m with a time of 19:11.24 while CSUN's distance medley relay team of Sakura Divecchio, Ali Medina, Leann Hamilton and Ganter were fourth with a time of 12:54.00.
Other CSUN performances included Jasmine Haskell who finished 16th in the 400m at 57.37. Hamilton also was 16th in the 800m at 2:24.95.

"We accomplished a lot this weekend. We talked as a team after our last meet about letting your performance be a reflection of the work you put in, and the majority of the team was able to do that this weekend. We still have a lot of room for growth, but we are becoming a more cohesive team and enjoying the process of getting better every week."
