Long Beach State Edges CSUN, 4-3

LONG BEACH, Calif -- CSUN Women's Tennis narrowly lost to Long Beach State, 4-3 Saturday afternoon at Rhodes Tennis Center. After CSUN won the doubles point and the first singles point, the Beach stormed back to take the next four points and earned the win.

HOW IT HAPPENED

DOUBLES PLAY
In #1 doubles CSUN came out victorious when Ho, Angela Ho and Yuliia Zhytelna bested Cecilia Costa and Johanna Hiesmair, 7-5 to inch closer to the doubles point. LBSU struck back on the #2 court, as Elena Goodman and Emma Moratalla Sanz were defeated by Daisy Carpenter and Paulina Franco, 7-5.

In the final and deciding doubles match, CSUN took home the doubles point when Victoria Santibañez Luna and Nicole West defeated Diana De Simone and Thea Jagare, 7-6 (7-5)

SINGLES PLAY
CSUN took the first singles point to go up 2-0 when Ho beat Jagare in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2.
The Beach took their first point of the dual as Daria Malaescu defeated West in three sets, 6-3, 0-6, 6-2.

Long Beach State tied things at two apiece when Costa defeated Santibanez Luna 4-6, 6-3, 6-1.
The next match took place at No.1 singles in a hard-fought back and forth battle. De Simone from LBSU won the first set in a tie breaker, 7-6 (7-5) and won the second set 6-4 over Zhytelna, giving the Beach a 3-2 lead.

Long Beach took the deciding fourth point when Pamela Badillo bested Moratalla Sanz 6-7 (7-5), 6-4, 6-1 on court No. 5.Â

The last remaining match was Goodman against Carpenter. The sophomore from Burbank notched her second win on the season, winning with a score of 2-6, 7-5, 6-4.Â

"This loss was tough, we have lost four matches by a total of five points. We beat our conference opponents three out of six times last year by a total of five points. Margins are that small."
