Â
CSUMB opened up the third quarter with a pair of goals to pull to within one, but the Matadors regained control soon after. A late CSUMB goal from Abby Allan stopped the run, but the Matadors still maintained a 12-7 lead. CSUN managed the clock in the fourth quarter and kept the Otters at bay for most of the period. Alex Harris and Emma Sosa hit the net for CSUMB, but the Matadors held on for 12-9 decision. Â
Â
MARIST GAME
CSUN kept up its scoring ways with an early goal from Sandhagen before the senior touched the net again at the 5:26 mark of the period. CSUN gained a quick 3-0 lead courtesy of Sofia Martinez until Marist scored on a power play soon after. Martinez netted another one at the 2:11 mark, but the Red Foxes scored twice over the final 1:03 to pull to within 4-3 after one quarter. Marist continued its scoring run with three straight goals to open the second quarter, taking a 6-4 lead until Pal ended the string with 3:36 to go in the first half. CSUN though could not contain the hot shooting Red Foxes, who opened a three-goal lead, before Pal closed the half with a late strike, making it an 8-6 game at the break.
The defense tightened in the second half with just five total goals recorded. In the third, CSUN rallied as Telek netted two goals and Valeria Martinez recorded a late tally to tie the game up at 9-9. The score remained deadlocked entering the fourth quarter where Victoria Padilla finally put Marist ahead with 4:08 to go. CSUN earned two power plays over the final two minutes of play but could not cash in as Marist hung on for the win.
NOTES OF THE GAMES
ACCORDING TO COACH MATT WARSHAW
"The team played an excellent game, did a great job following the game plan and came up a little short. Shooting from the outside remains a focus, going 9-for-42 shooting was tough and despite that we were within a goal of winning. Overall, a good weekend, we continue to show improvement as we prepare for conference play, which is quickly approaching."

UP NEXT
