CSUN to Play Five Games in Three Days, Highlighted by Home Opener vs. Villanova

NORTHRIDGE, Calif.— CSUN Water Polo will start an action-packed weekend tomorrow at Occidental College where the Matadors will begin the Convergence Tournament and face off against Cal State Monterey Bay for the third and final time this season at 11:30 a.m. and Fresno Pacific at 5:45 p.m. The weekend continues at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps in Claremont where the Matadors meet Redlands at 11:30 a.m. and finally the host team CMS at 4:30 p.m.

The Matadors will end their weekend back at home against Villanova at 11 a.m. at Matador Pool. Live stats will be available throughout the weekend for all five games.

FOR STARTERS
CSUN is currently 10-4 on the season and coming off a 2-2 weekend at the Bronco Invitational in Santa Clara from Feb. 14-15. The Matadors defeated Cal State Monterey Bay and Santa Clara by scores of 14-10 and 12-9, respectively, while the two losses came against No. 19 ranked San José State and No. 23 ranked Marist. CSUN is looking to bounce back this weekend with five opportunities for wins, with one being the home opener against No. 23 ranked Villanova.

TOP MATADOR PERFORMERS
Dorottya Telek continues to lead the Matadors in points with 89 on the season. She leads the team in goals as well with 65 and field blocks with eight. Anna Pal leads the team with 38 assists and has netted 32 goals of her own so far. She also leads the team with 29 steals in 14 games. Sofia Martinez is coming off of a hot weekend in Santa Clara where she scored nine goals and recorded three assists. In the cage, freshman Marin Byars made the start against both San José State and Marist in Santa Clara where she had a combined 12 saves and two assists.

SCOUTING MONTEREY BAY
The Otters are 3-11 on the season with their wins coming against Ottawa University Arizona, Chapman University, and La Verne. Seven of its 11 losses are to ranked opponents. Autumn Day leads the team in scoring with 34 goals on 53 attempts to give her 50 points on the season. Marissa White has led the Otters for the majority of the time this season in goal, recording 134 saves and posting a .434 save percentage.

Series History: The Matadors lead Cal State Monterey Bay a perfect 10-0 record in program history. The two teams met January 18th at the Beach Invite where the Matadors claimed a 17-9 victory against the Otters as well as on February 15th at Santa Clara where the Matadors topped the Otters 12-9.

SCOUTING FRESNO PACIFIC
The Sunbirds are currently 5-4 overall on the season with their wins coming against Whittier College, University of Redlands, and UC Merced. Two of their losses come from
ranked opponents in UC San Diego by a score of 18-7 and Fresno State by a score of 23-6. Fresno Pacific is led by freshman Fillipi Evelina in the goal who has a recorded 28 saves and .459 shot percentage.

The Bulldogs are currently 0-8 overall on the season with their most recent loss to UC Merced decided by just five goals. Emma Parker leads the offense for Redlands, recording 14 goals, two assists and 16 points on the season. Daisy Rojo has taken the brunt of the goalkeeping position, recording 13 saves on the season in seven
games played.

Grace Clark leads the offense for CMS with 23 goals on 43 attempts and five assists to make 28 points on the season so far. Not far behind her is Valerie Wraith with 17 goals on the season and five assists of her own. Leading the Athenas in the cage is Mason Spencer who has recorded 46 saves and 18 steals on the season.
