CSUN Falls to UC Irvine in Home Big West Contest

NORTHRIDGE, Calif -- CSUN Women's Basketball fell to the UC Irvine Anteaters by a score of 100-56, Thursday night at Premier America Credit Union Arena. Junior Morgan Edwards led all CSUN scorers with 11 points. All 10 CSUN players found the scoring column in the defeat. Freshman Yves Cox had a near double-double with eight points and 11 rebounds.

HOW IT HAPPENED
UC Irvine began the game on a 13-3 run, with the lone CSUN basket coming from Edwards at the 5:45 mark. Erica Adams broke the run with a mid-range jumper to trim the deficit to single-digits with 3:39 left to play in the period. The Anteaters went on another run to end the quarter, this time of the 12-2 variety, before Edwards ended the quarter with a layup.

In the second quarter, Erika Aspajo found the bottom of the net twice in the quarter's first two minutes, cutting the UCI lead to 31-11. After the Spaniard's second bucket, UCI went on a 12-0 run, with Deja Lee contributing five of those 12 points. After two made free throws from Kayla Hopson, UCI answered with an 11-0 run to extend the lead to 54-13. Two free throws by Alondra Lizama and Jenna Kilty, as well as a jumpshot by Adams totaled the rest of the CSUN scoring heading into the intermission.

2ND HALF
Nnenna Orji hit a free-throw and layup to get the scoring started for the Matadors in the third quarter. UCI's Lee matched Orji with a free-throw and layup of her own at the 9:06 mark. UCI went on another 10-2 run before CSUN started to get things going. The Matadors went on 7-0 run thanks in large part to a pair of threes, one by Laini Dahlin, and the other by Karsen Marshall. The 7-0 run trimmed the Anteater lead to 74-29

In the fourth quarter, CSUN would outscore the Anteaters, 24-17. After UCI hit a layup to kick off the fourth, CSUN went on a mini 6-2 run thanks to two shots from behind the arc. One by Kilty and the other by Edwards. After a made free-throw by the Anteaters, CSUN went on a 11-2 run, capped off by two free-throws from Lizama with 4:33 left to play.Â
