CSUN Track & Field Heads to Spokane for MPSF Championships

NORTHRIDGE, Calif.---CSUN Track & Field embarks on the 2025 MPSF Championships, held at the Podium in Spokane, Wash. The two-day championship will be held from Friday to Saturday with live video and live results available throughout the weekend.

Multi events will begin the championships on Friday at 10:15 a.m. while field events start at 2:30 p.m. and track events at 3 p.m. Saturday's competition starts at 10 a.m. with the remainder of field events along with the finals of track competition starting at 10:10 a.m.
LOOKING AT THE RANKINGS
In this week's USFTCCCA conference rankings, the CSUN men's team was ranked fourth, behind Washington State, Cal State Fullerton and Portland. In the west region, the men's squad was ranked 12th, and nationally, they were ranked 39th.
The CSUN women's team was ranked 11th in the conference rankings and 27th in the west region heading into this week's conference championships.
THE MPSF FIELD
A total of 13 schools are set to compete in the 2025 MPSF Championships, which includes CSUN, Cal State Fullerton, Hawai'i, Long Beach State, Oregon State, Pepperdine, Portland, San Francisco, Saint Mary's, UC Davis, UC Irvine, UC Riverside and Washington State.
A LOOK BACK AT THE 2024 MPSF's
The CSUN men's team is looking to improve upon its third-place finish at last year's MPSF Championships. CSUN's third-place finish was its highest since joining the MPSF while it was the team's highest overall finish at an indoor conference championship meet since taking second at the 2001 Big Sky Championships. On the women's side, the team finished ninth overall as the 2024 MPSF Championships, improving upon the 10th-place finish from 2023.
In all, CSUN won four individual titles with Trey Knight winning the weight throw and shot put titles and David Phillips, Jr. winning the 200m and 400m titles.

Senior Trey Knight enters competition this week leading the nation in the men's weight throw with a school record toss of 24.87m (81-7.25) set at the Nevada Invitational on Jan. 24. That toss was the third-best in collegiate history and eighth-best in world history, which earned him National Athlete of the Week accolades.
This week, Knight returns to competition at MPSF Championships where he will look to defend his weight throw title. Knight set a then school record of 23.52m (77-2) to take first place in the weight throw last year. His school record would be broken just weeks later at the 2024 NCAA Indoor Championships where he went on to finish as the national runner up in the weight throw.
LAST TIME OUT
CSUN last competed at the Wolf Pack Classic from Feb. 7-8 in Reno, Nev. The Matadors had five individual wins on the men's side at the two-day meet. Tylor Connelly won the weight throw with a toss of 17.53m (57-6.25) while Elijah Ignacio registered a PR in the shot put of 17.35m (56-11.25) to win the event. Jay Louison-Roe won his second triple jump event of the season with a mark of 15.32m (50-3.25). On the track, Chase Mars took home first in the 60m finals with a season-best time of 6.65 and James Crawford won the 200m with a time of 20.93.
On the women's side, Katherine Shipp-Davis was third in the weight throw with a mark of 16.74m (54-11.25). Kaliyah Poston had a strong weekend as well, finishing third in the 60m with a time of 7.48 and seventh in the 200m with the second-best time in school history at 23.89.
