Matadors Battle Santa Clara in Defeat

NORTHRIDGE, Calif -- CSUN Women's Tennis fell to Santa Clara, 4-2 Sunday afternoon at the Matador Tennis Complex. Despite earning the first two points of the day, the Matadors were defeated in the final four singles matches. The doubles teams of No.1 Yuliia Zhytelna and Angela Ho, and Elena Goodman and Emma Moratalla Sanz combined to take home the doubles point. While Goodman also took home the lone singles point.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Zhytelna and Ho brought home the first strike of the day in the doubles section of competition on Sunday when they blanked Jillian Roa and Velizara Fileva, 6-0. CSUN then clinched the doubles point when Goodman and Moratalla Sanz bested Kacey Feng and Anna Rahman 6-1.

To start singles play, CSUN registered its next point when Goodman defeated Juliette Krumholz in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2.It was Goodman's first singles bout of the year, and she came out on the winning end.

However for the Matadors, the tide kept turning in the way of the Broncos. Santa Clara swept the next four singles matches, earning the magic number of four and the win.

Here is how it played out: On court No. 1 Daniella Dimitrova was victorious over Zhytelna, 6-3, 6-1. The next contest to end was No. 4 singles when Jillian Roa beat Moratalla Sanz, 6-0, 6-2. The Broncos earned their third point when Tian Yu Dong bested Victoria Santibanez Luna, 6-4, 6-3.Â

Santa Clara would then clinch the victory when Fileva beat Ho 6-4, 6-1.

Following this non-conference match is CSUN competing in Big West play this Thursday at Long Beach State. The duel will take place at the Rhodes Tennis Center and it is the Matadors first Big West opponent since CSUN was at Hawai'i on Jan. 25.
