CSUN Defeats Pacific, 5-2 in Home Duel

NORTHRIDGE, Calif -- CSUN defeated the Pacific Tigers, 5-2, Saturday afternoon at the Matador Tennis Complex.

HOW IT HAPPENED
CSUN began the day by taking the doubles point from the Tigers in sweeping fashion, winning the first two contests. Emma Moratalla Sanz and Elena Goodman blanked Milena Maiorova and Nahreen Cheam, 6-0 to pick up the first half point.Â
Â
The Matadors then clinched the doubles point when Victoria Santibañez Luna and Angela Ho defeated Megan Carmichael and Alexis Sam, 6-4.

Yuliia Zhytelna and Madison Shepperson won the last remaining doubles contest against Maggie Hoe and Rayna Sugai, 6-4.

"We had a rough start in the beginning of the match but eventually started to trust in myself and my game," said Shepperson. "With the help and support from Yuliia, we were able to step it up and finish with the win.

To begin singles play, CSUN got its second point in the match when Sofia Dermenjyan overcame Hoe in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3.

"I am grateful for the opportunity to compete for the team," said Dermenjyan. "I am happy with today's win, we had high energy and support all around."

At No. 3 singles, Ho bested Sam, 6-3, 6-2 to earn the Matadors' third point of the day.

At No. 2 singles, the Tigers got their first point of the contest. Maiorova defeated Santibañez Luna in a tight battle, 7-6 (8-6), 6-4.

The next bout to finish was at court No. 5. Goodman clinched the CSUN victory when she overcame Cheam in three sets, 6-1, 1-6, 6-2 to give the Matadors their fourth point.Â

Zhytelna got the fifth and final point for the Matadors at No.1 singles. She beat Carmichael 6-4, 7-6 (7-4) sealing the win for CSUN.
