VIRGINIA BEACH, Va.---CSUN's senior thrower Trey Knight finished as the national runner-up for the second year in a row in the weight throw on Friday at NCAA Indoor Championships inside the Virginia Beach Sports Center.
In the opening round, Knight qualified for the finals on his final toss as he finished in ninth place through his first three throws. He would vault into second place during the final round of competition, recording his best throw of the meet on his fifth attempt with a toss of 24.49m (80-4.25). Finishing in second place overall, Knight clinched All-American First Team honors.
Wyoming's Daniel Reynolds, who was the national leader in the weight throw entering the meet, would come away with the national title with a toss of 25.08m (82-3.5).
A native of Ridgefield, Wash., Knight put together another historic indoor track & field season in 2025. He would break his own school record in the weight throw last January with a toss of 24.87m (81-7.25), earning CSUN's first National Athlete of the Week honor in school history during the indoor season.
Knight went on to become the first two-time weight throw champion in school history, successfully defending his title at the 2025 MPSF Indoor Championships in Spokane, Wash. He also earned his second consecutive MPSF Male Athlete of the Year award, a first for any CSUN athlete in school history.
ACCORDING TO COACH JUSTIN JOHNSON
"Some days it comes easy and today was not one of those days. Trey competed like a champion today and found a way to bring home the silver. We are very proud of Trey and the way he represented himself, his coaches and CSUN."
