CSUN Track & Field Opens Outdoor Season at Long Beach State

NORTHRIDGE, Calif.---CSUN Track & Field kicks off the 2025 outdoor season this weekend at Long Beach State's Beach Opener at Jack Rose Track.
Day one is set for Friday with the men's and women's hammer throw and javelin events taking place beginning at 11 a.m. Saturday features a full slate of events starting at 10 a.m.

CSUN has entered in 23 total events at the meet with 12 on the men's side and 11 on the women's side.
On the men's team, the Matadors will send the following to Long Beach State: Thomas Achten, Christopher Allen, Caden Bazo, Santiago Cerda, Tylor Connelly, James Crawford, Luke DaVanon, Logan Davis, Jonrich Dela Cruz, Tui Edwin, Alec Flores, Jeremiah Harris, Caleb Harrell, Elijah Ignacio, Ehinome Inegbenoise, Francisco Isiordia, Darrick Jacob, Jr., Guillermo Lopez, Jay Louison-Roe, Chase Mars, Ramiro Mateos, Tibyasa Matovu, Joey Nations, Walter Pierce, Diego Rodriguez, Jayden Smith, Elijah Stenberg, Camilo Torres, Jabari Vaughn and TJ Wiggins.
CSUN's women's team will send the following student-athletes to the meet: Amani Britton, Treasure Brown, Sakura Divecchio, Savannah Ganter, Zola Grey, Jasmine Haskell, Leann Hamilton, Jocelyn Hoggard, Emily Hutchinson, Danielle Irvin, Ami Jacobson, Brianna Kelpis, Jaelyn Lee, Myli Level, Jayden Lopes, Elin Markarian, Marina McNeil-Vivanco, Ali Medina, Summer Mosley, Ada Murray, Anna Negulic, Naomi Sachs, Chandler Smith and Simone Smith.
MPSF CHAMPIONSHIPS
CSUN wrapped up the MPSF Championships two weeks ago from Feb. 21-22 in Spokane, Wash. The men's team finished in fifth place while the women's team came in ninth place. The Matadors had two individual title victories with Trey Knight winning his second consecutive weight throw title with a toss of 23.26m (76-3.75) while newcomer Tibyasa Matovu claimed CSUN's third consecutive indoor 400m title with a time of 46.80. Matovu also broke the school's indoor 400m record, first set in 1998, while the 4x400m relay team of Gabe Martinez, Luke DaVanon, Walter Pierce and Matovu finished in second place with a school record time of 3:11.70.
KNIGHT QUALIFIES FOR NATIONALS
Senior thrower Trey Knight will represent CSUN at the 2025 NCAA Indoor Championships next week in Virginia Beach, Va. Knight will compete in the weight throw on Friday, March 14 at 3:05 PT. During the 2025 indoor season, Knight broke his own school record in the weight throw, charting a toss of 24.87m (81-7.25) at the Nevada Invitational. His toss was ranked first nearly the entire season until being bested last weekend by Daniel Reynolds of Wyoming. Knight won his second consecutive MPSF Athlete of the Year award on Feb. 26, becoming the first Matador in history to accomplish the feat. He was also named to the prestigious Bowerman Award watch list on Feb. 6. Last season, Knight was the national runner up in the weight throw when he set a then school record toss of 24.14m (79-2.5) at the 2024 NCAA Indoor Championships in Boston.
