Personal Bests and Davis' 200m Win Highlight CSUN's Outdoor Opener

LONG BEACH, Calif.---CSUN Track & Field opened the 2025 outdoor season this weekend at the Beach Opener at Jack Rose Track on the campus of Long Beach State. The invite was held from Friday to Saturday with CSUN boasting several personal bests across many events.
MEN'S PERFORMANCES
Logan Davis returned to the outdoor track for the first time in two seasons and won the 200m, posting a personal record time of 21.03. CSUN had two others finish in the top 15 in the event with Walter Pierce taking 12th at 21.74 and Luke DaVanon finishing 15th at 21.80.
Davis had an all around stellar meet as he finished second as well in the 100m with a wind-aided time of 10.42. Caleb Harrell also cracked the top 10 with a time of 10.53 followed by Joey Nations in 11th place with a PR time of 10.65 and Jeremiah Harris in 15th place at 10.79.
In distance races, Elijah Stenberg posted a PR in the 1500m, finishing fourth with a time of 3:54.94 while Camilo Torres was 13th at 4:05.16 and Thomas Achten claimed 14th at 4:05.95. Ramiro Mateos paced CSUN in the 3000m-steeplechase with a fourth-place finish at 9:38.86 followed by Diego Rodriguez in seventh with a time of 9:55.92. In the 800m, Darrick Jacob, Jr. finished in fifth place with a time of 1:59.00.
Elijah Ignacio led the way for CSUN in the discus, placing fifth overall with a toss of 53.89 (176-9). That throw was good enough for 10th place in school history. Ignacio was also the top Matador in the shot put, finishing in seventh with a mark of 15.84m (51-11.75) followed by Santiago Cerda in eighth place at 15.67m (51-5), Tui Edwin in 10th place at 15.22m (49-11.25) and Guillermo Lopez in 13th place at 15.16m (49-9).
In the 400m, Chase Mars set a PR as well with a time of 49.77 to claim eighth place while James Crawford finished in 10th place with a PR of 50.15. Ehinome Inegbenoise was 13th in the event, running a time of 50.64.
In another top-10 CSUN finish, Tylor Connelly was ninth overall in the hammer throw as he set a PR of 56.86m (186-7).
WOMEN'S PERFORMANCES
CSUN's Jasmine Haskell had one of the top performances on the women's side, finishing in third place in the 800m with a time of 2:18.30. Leann Hamilton was right behind her in fifth place at 2:21.53 and Jayden Lopes was 10th with a time of 2:25.81.
In the shot put, Emily Hutchinson was fourth place overall with a toss of 13.62m (44-8.25) while Brianna Kelpis took seventh place at 12.72m (41-8.75). Amani Britton also had a strong effort, finishing eighth at 12.63m (41-5.25) and Jocelyn Hoggard was ninth at 12.24m (40-2).
In other field events, Britton took fifth place in the discus, setting a PR of 46.72m (153-3) while Treasure Brown finished 10th at 43.30m (142-0). Naomi Sachs was the only Matador in the high jump as she finished fifth overall with a PR mark of 1.66m (5-5.25).
Summer Mosley made her CSUN outdoor debut and finished sixth in the hammer throw with a toss of 55.21m (181-1) while Marina McNeil-Vivanco set a PR of 47.62m (156-2) to finish 11th.
Sakura Divecchio came in ninth place in the 1500m, running at 4:54.17 while three other Matadors were in the top 15 as well. Savannah Ganter finished 12th at 4:59.67, Ami Jacobson was 13th at 5:00.29 and Elin Markarian placed 15th at 5:03.72.
Other Matador performances included Brianna Kelpis taking 14th place in the javelin at 29.87m (98-0), Simone Smith leading CSUN in the long jump with a mark of 5.32m (17-5.5) to finish 18th place and Ali Medina was the top CSUN runner in the 400m, posting a time of 1:01.30 to finish 20th overall.

CSUN will be represented at the 2025 NCAA Indoor Championships on Friday, March 14, as Trey Knight will compete in the weight throw. Meanwhile, the Matador men's and women's teams return to competition at USC's Ron Sharlene Allice Trojan Invitational from March 21-22.
