CSUN Track & Field Heads to Santa Barbara This Weekend

NORTHRIDGE, Calif.---CSUN's men's and women's track & field teams heads to Santa Barbara this week to compete at the UC Santa Barbara Invitational. The two-day meet opens on Friday with discus and shot put events while a full slate of events are set for Saturday.

CSUN's has entered in a total of 24 events this weekend with 13 on the women's side and 11 on the men's side.
On the women's team, the following have entered in events: Anastasia Bampali, Amani Britton, Treasure Brown, Zola Grey, Leann Hamilton, Camryn Harris, Jasmine Haskell, Jocelyn Hoggard, Emily Hutchinson, Zoey Igbinigie, Danielle Irvin, Brianna Kelpis, Jaelyn Lee, Myli Level, Jayden Lopes, Marina McNeil-Vivanco, Ali Medina, Summer Mosley, Ada Murray, Anna Negulic, Ashleigh Porter, Audrie Reuss, Naomi Sachs, Chandler Smith and Simone Smith.
On the men's team, the following have entered in competitions: Christopher Allen, Caden Bazo, Layne Buck, Santiago Cerda, Tzu-Ting Chan, Logan Davis, Jonrich Dela Cruz, Alec Flores, Caleb Harrell, Elijah Ignacio, Ehinome Inegbenoise, Francisco Isiordia, Darrick Jacob, Jr., Trey Knight, Guillermo Lopez, Walter Pierce, Jay Louison-Roe, Joey Nations, Diego Rodriguez, Jorge Romo, Jr., Jayden Smith, Kai Smith, Jabari Vaughn, TJ Wiggins, Linkin Woolf and Shamil Youngblood.
LAST TIME OUT
CSUN split up its men's and women's teams and competed at the 65th Annual Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut and the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa last week. The Matadors collected three first-place finishes at the Mt. SAC Relays with the men's 4x100m relay team of Joey Nations, Caleb Harrell, Logan Davis and Chase Mars (39.96) and the men's 4x400m relay team of Walter Pierce, Davis, Gabe Martinez and Tibyasa Matovu (3:07.82) claiming first place along with Jay Louison-Roe in the men's triple jump (15.15m, 49-8.5). Matovu also had a strong showing in the men's 400m, finishing fourth and posting the second-best time in school history at 46.51 while Alba Moreno Paredes was second in the women's high jump with a mark of 1.65m (5-5).
At the Bryan Clay Invite, Elijah Ignacio was second in the men's discus at 51.99 (170-7) and fifth in the shot put at 16.59m (54-5.25). On the women's team, Emily Hutchinson was sixth in the shot put with her toss of 13.91m (45-7.75).
KNIGHT COLLECTS FOURTH CAREER WEEKLY HONOR
Senior thrower Trey Knight secured his second Big West Field Athlete of the Week award of the season and the fourth of his career on April 22. His four career Big West awards are the second-most in CSUN Men's Track & Field team history. In his second meet of the outdoor season, Knight had an outstanding showing in the men's hammer throw at the 65th Annual Mt. SAC Relays where he finished in second place overall with a throw of 74.35m (243-11). Knight currently shares the national lead in the hammer throw this season with Minnesota's Kostas Zaltos at 77.91m (255-7), set at the Trojan Invitational in March.
MAKING THE MARK
CSUN's 4x400m team currently leads the Big West on the conference's top performance list this season. The Matador quartet of Walter Pierce, Logan Davis, Gabe Martinez and Tibyasa Matovu established a school record of 3:07.32 on April 4 at the UNLV Rebel ELITE. Senior Trey Knight also is leading all Big West athletes in the hammer throw this season with his school record toss of 77.91m (255-7) at the Trojan Invite.
On the men's team, Matovu is second on the 400m Big West list (46.51), Chase Mars is third on the 100m list (10.26) and fifth on the 200m list (20.95), Joey Nations is third in the long jump (7.53m, 24-8.5) and Jay Louison-Roe is fifth in the triple jump (15.15m, 49-8.5). CSUN's 4x100m relay team is also ranked third in the Big West (39.96).
On the women's team, Summer Mosley is ranked fourth in the Big West and 39th in the nation in the hammer throw (61.71m, 202-5) while she is ranked fourth in the discus in the conference (48.77m, 160-0). Camryn Harris also sits in sixth place in the triple jump (12.36m, 40-6.75).
UP NEXT
After this week's meet, CSUN will return to UC Irvine to compete at the Steve Scott Invitational from May 2-3 while members of the team will also take part in the Desert Heat Classic on May 3 in Tucson, Ariz.
