CSUN Track & Field Collects Five Victories at UCSB Invite

SANTA BARBARA, Calif.---CSUN Track & Field wrapped up a two-day stay at the UC Santa Barbara Invitational on Saturday with five total wins on the weekend.
The Matador women's team claimed three victories in field events. On Friday, Summer Mosley won her first discus event as a Matador, registering the sixth-best toss in school history while Emily Hutchinson was victorious in the shot put. Chandler Smith rounded out the first-place finishes on the women's team with a victory in the long jump.
The CSUN men would be led by Joey Nations who won the long jump and the 100m with personal records set in each event.
WOMEN'S PERFORMANCES
Mosley's best throw in the discus would come on her first attempt when she registered a toss of 51.78m (169-10). Her victory was her second overall as a Matador this season, after picking up a hammer throw title in March. Elsewhere in the discus, Amani Britton was third overall with a toss of 46.22m (151-7) while Treasure Brown was fifth with her throw of 42.57m (139-8) and Jaelyn Lee took 10th place at 38.09m (124-11).
In the shot put, Hutchinson took first place with a throw of 14.11m (46-3.5), which was a season best and her first event victory this outdoor season. CSUN athletes finished fourth through sixth in the event as Jocelyn Hoggard was fourth place at 13.01m (42-8.25), Britton was fifth at 12.23m (40-1.5) and Brown was sixth at 12.13m (39-9.75).
On Saturday, Smith set a PR in the long jump as she claimed first place with a mark of 6.11m (20-0.5). Right behind her was Zola Grey who was third in the event with a mark of 5.95m (19-6.25) while Brianna Kelpis took eighth place with a PR of 5.65m (18-6.5) and Simone Smith was 10th at 5.36m (17-7).
In other field events, Naomi Sachs tied a PR and finished second in the high jump with a leap of 1.66m (5-5.25) while Ashleigh Porter finished fifth at 1.61m (5-3.25). Mosley was the runner up in the hammer throw with her throw of 58.75m (192-9) followed by Marina McNeil-Vivanco in seventh place with her toss of 49.01m (160-9). Camryn Harris was third in the triple jump by charting a mark of 12.13m (39-9.75). Kelpis was also the top Matador in the javelin, registering a mark of 34.53m (113-3) to finish eighth while Audrie Reuss was 10th at 29.34m (96-3).
In sprints, Kelpis had a strong showing in the 100m-hurdles, finishing in third place with her time of 14.46. Jasmine Haskell took third place in the 400m by charting a time of 54.77. Jayden Lopes paced CSUN in the 200m, finishing 11th at 25.61 while Zoey Igbinigie placed 13th in the 100m prelims with her time of 12.61.
Leann Hamilton was the lone women's distance runner at the meet, competing in the 1500m where she was eighth at 4:50.03.
MEN'S PERFORMANCES
The men's team would be led by Nations who took first place in the long jump with his leap of 7.58m (24-10.5). That mark ranks as the 10th-best in school history and set a new PR. Jay Louison-Roe was fifth in the long jump by leaping at 6.98m (22-10.75) while Tzu-Ting Chan was sixth at 6.77m (22-2.5), Jonrich Dela Cruz was seventh at 6.70m (21-11.75) and Jorge Romo, Jr. was ninth with a PR of 6.57m (21-6.75).
Nations had his best performance of his career in the 100m on Saturday. The junior began the event by finishing in second place in the preliminaries with a time of 10.60 before setting a new PR in the final round of 10.42 to take first place. Caleb Harrell, who was sixth in the prelims (10.74), finished fourth in the finals at 10.60 while Ehinome Inegbenoise finished fifth in the finals with a PR of 10.76 after he was eighth in the prelims (10.95).
In other sprints, Jabari Vaughn was second in the 200m with a time of 22.15 followed by a host of Matadors as Christopher Allen was third at 22.17, Linkin Woolf was fourth at 22.23 and Jayden Smith was sixth at 22.27. Smith would lead CSUN in the 400m where he set a PR of 48.51 to take fifth place, followed by Woolf in eighth place with a PR of 49.12.
In other field events, Elijah Ignacio took second place in the discus with his toss of 53.52m (175-7) while Guillermo Lopez was fifth at 47.74m (156-7) and Santiago Cerda was ninth at 41.84m (137-3). Ignacio also led the way for CSUN in the shot put, finishing fourth overall at 16.85m (55-3.5), followed by Lopez in sixth at 16.71m (54-10), Cerda in seventh at 16.45m (53-11.75) and Francisco Isiordia in ninth at 15.28m (50-1.75). In the hammer, Isiordia would make the finals where he set a PR of 49.05m (160-11) to take ninth place. Romo was third overall in the triple jump with a PR of 14.15m (46-5.25) while TJ Wiggins made his Matador debut in the high jump, finishing in fourth place at 1.85m (6-0.75).
In distance races, Darrick Jacob, Jr. claimed third place in the 800m with a PR of 1:56.11. Finally, Alec Flores led CSUN runners in the 1500m with a PR of 4:03.27 to finish sixth while Diego Rodriguez finished eighth at 4:08.90, Caden Bazo took ninth with a PR of 4:11.15 and Kai Smith placed 10th at 4:24.46.

CSUN men's and women's track & field teams will split the roster and compete at two meets next weekend. The Matadors return to UC Irvine to participate at the Steve Scott Invitational from May 2-3 while members of the team head to the Desert Heat Classic on May 3 in Tuscon, Ariz.

Romo was third overall in the triple jump with a PR of 14.15m (46-5.25) while TJ Wiggins made his Matador debut in the high jump, finishing in fourth place at 1.85m (6-0.75).
