CSUN Track & Field Set For Busy Weekend at UCSD and UNLV

NORTHRIDGE, Calif.---CSUN Track & Field will split up its team and compete at two meets from Friday to Saturday this week. The Matadors are scheduled to send a dozen throwers to UC San Diego's Triton Invitational while the remainder of the team is set to take part in the UNLV Rebels ELITE.

On the men's team, the following have entered in events at the Triton Invitational: Santiago Cerda, Tylor Connelly, Elijah Ignacio, Francisco Isiordia and Guillermo Lopez. The Matador women's team will have the following compete: Amani Britton, Treasure Brown, Jocelyn Hoggard, Emily Hutchinson, Myli Level, Marina McNeil-Vivanco and Summer Mosley.

The Matadors have entered in 25 total events at the UNLV Rebels ELITE including a wide variety of track and several field events.
CSUN's men's team will send the following group: Thomas Achten, Layne Buck, Tzu-Ting Chan, James Crawford, Jonrich Dela Cruz, Luke DaVanon, Logan Davis, Daniel Harper, Caleb Harrell, Jeremiah Harris, Ehinome Inegbenoise, Jay Louison-Roe, Chase Mars, Gabe Martinez, Ramiro Mateos, Tibyasa Matovu, Joey Nations, Walter Pierce, Jayden Smith, Elijah Stenberg, Camilo Torres and Shamil Youngblood.
Representing the women's team will be the following: Sakura Divecchio, Savannah Ganter, Zola Grey, Leann Hamilton, Camryn Harris, Jasmine Haskell, Zoey Igbinigie, Danielle Irvine, Ami Jacobson, Brianna Kelpis, Jayden Lopes, Elin Markarian, Ali Medina, Alba Moreno Paredes, Anna Negulic, Ashleigh Porter, Audrie Reuss, Naomi Sachs, Chandler Smith and Simone Smith.
LAST TIME OUT
CSUN had a strong showing at UC Irvine's Vince O'Boyle Track & Field Classic last week with the Matadors claiming four wins on the men's team and two on the women's squad.
On the men's team, freshman Walter Pierce took home the 400m title by clocking a time of 47.87 while senior Chase Mars was the top runner in the 200m, winning the event with a time of 21.11. In another track victory, the 4x100m relay team of Logan Davis, Caleb Harrell, Shamil Youngblood and Mars bested six other teams to win the event at 40.61. Senior Tylor Connelly collected a first-place finish as well in the hammer throw with a toss of 56.42m (185-1) to round out the men's team wins.
On the women's side, Summer Mosley picked up her first win of the outdoor season by taking first in the hammer throw with a mark of 58.19m (190-11) while Jasmine Haskell clocked a 400m time of 55.46 to take first place.
LEADING THE NATION
Senior thrower Trey Knight still holds the top national mark in the men's hammer throw this season. His national leading throw of 77.91m (255-7) took place at the the Trojan Invitational on March 21, which also broke the CSUN and Big West all-time records. Knight's effort in the hammer throw garnered him Big West Field Athlete of the Week honors on March 25, his third award of his CSUN career.
MAKING THE MARK
Junior Tibyasa Matovu remains the Big West leader in the men's 400m this season. His conference-best time of 46.55 came at the Trojan Invitational on March 22 where he set a personal record and tied for the second best time in school history. Overall, Matovu's time ranks 21st in the nation entering competition this weekend.
In the men's long jump, junior Joey Nations is second in the Big West this season with his mark of 7.53m (24-8.5), set at the Trojan Invitational on March 22. The leap is just a 0.04m shy of the conference leading mark, held by Rahsaan Dozier of Cal State Fullerton. Nations' leap is currently tied for 24th overall in the nation this season.
Senior thrower Summer Mosley's hammer throw performance at the Trojan Invitational on March 21 currently leads all Big West throwers. Her toss of 61.71m (202-5) was the second-best in CSUN history while it ranks 26th best in the nation. Mosely is also third in the Big West in the discus this season at 48.77m (160-0).Â

CSUN is scheduled to participate next week at the Bryan Clay Multis, hosted by Azusa Pacific, from April 10-11. A week later, the Matadors are set to send the remainder of the team to compete in a pair of meets, which includes the Bryan Clay Invitational (April 16-17) and the Mt. SAC Relays (April 18-19).
